It's hard to say exactly what might make the difference.  LL runs at least three different version of its server software at any given time, and upgrades them each fairly often.  Also, there can be up to four sims on a single server, and there's no guarantee that your sim will share a server with the same others from one day to the next.  As a result, the way that your sim's physics engine behaves might be slightly different as server configurations shift around.  The best way to get specific answers for your sim is probably to call Live Chat, which you can do as a Premium or Concierge member.

You need to contact support and get a tech to come out and check that the sim physics are working properly. It is not unknown for a sim to not connect properly to the grid & to experience problems.

Also bear in mind that changes to the way that sim physics behave are sometimes included in the server updates, so it could be expected and new behaviour.
