Closed? Ugh... First SL sim where I um, truly lost myself... well, one of my alts anyway then myself after she told me how rad the place was. :P

Sad to know it's gone. :( Thanks for the video, that's how I'll remember the joint.

I thought they had downsized a couple.of years ago..

They dropped down to one region, from five. I made the video before that, but didn't publish it at the time.

If it was a cost thing that contributed to the decsion rather then lost interest, it's to be hoped they relocated to a place where the cost of regions is free or at least more managable.

Any idea if that was the case?

Umm... hold up! I checked to see if Hangars was shuttered. It is just the single region. I checked the search page and HL is still listed. Here I am taking a break to check my cellphone a few moments ago.

(Also noticed Djehan Kidd was present before I left, shortly after I snapped this shot.)

I think he's always there, but AFK.

The one-region version is sort of like a museum of the full project.

It's sad when these amazing creative projects have to close but... if there's nobody to pay the bills.

Creativity is very expensive in SL, it's a shame.

Right. I am happy to see that it it still worthy of a visit. It isn't toned down as far as the overall aesthetic, just a smaller area to look at and experience. I miss the Olympic sized pool, but the open house apartments maintain their decadent vibe. Yesssss plz =p

Creativity doesn't per definition mean needing tons of land.
Simply put: Stay within the limits of ones budget and one can still be very creative.

I have dreams for 100 regions, but a wallet that doesn't justify even one. That's life.

Some projects require the space, even one region is enormously expensive when considering the actual resources consumed.

I know this is LL's business model these days (maybe always was) but the lack of flexibility and high cost of regions is limiting as far as creative sim building goes.

Those were rentable, but the rental office was hard to find.

Luca Grabacr, once the poet of Second Life, in an apartment in Hangars Liquides.

I haven't rented anything yet in SL. That's news to me, a rental office being hard to find. Sometimes I explore abandoned areas, and am occasionally greeted in IM with some rental owner advertising their wares to me, asking if I'm interested in renting a plot of land.

New Babbage has that problem. There are rental boards, but you have to know where they are. There's one for each region. One is in City Hall. One is in the tram station in Port Babbage. One is in the main train station in Babbage Palisade. One is in an underwater tunnel under the Vernian Sea. I don't know where the others are.

The large amount of unrented land may be related to this.

Dis man abandoned second life romanticism to make thousands of videos , reviewing in-game space ships in some other games . Lolol

Agreed.

I've visited Hangars Liquides a few times, and always found it a brilliant build.

I too have pondered having a sim or two of my own - until I saw the price tag! O_O

Sim prices are unreasonable to anyone with their priorities straight who doesn't make 100k a year. ( Waits for those without their priorities straight to tell me how they own 5 sims while making less. c-c)

It’s like $170/month for a full sim right?

Thats definitely an expense not accessible to people who aren’t invested into SL as a primary hobby, but then those are probably the only people who would buy a full sim anyway.

Aw shame only heard of this now, would have taken full flycam footage of the sims and let some other machinima creators know as well

As it is now, I'd say go for it if you want to create some content from Hangars. Not as expansive as before, but maybe worth it for a shorter video.
