animats Posted November 28 Posted November 28 Remember Hangars Liquides, the huge cyberpunk sim? Five regions of French cyberpunk. Before it closed, I toured it in a helicopter and made a video to remember it by. https://video.hardlimit.com/w/ns63jLzEqeAECuZ8NqphxN 4 1 4
Rowan Amore Posted November 28 Posted November 28 I thought they had downsized a couple.of years ago... 1 1
JeromFranzic Posted November 28 Posted November 28 (edited) Closed? Ugh... First SL sim where I um, truly lost myself... well, one of my alts anyway then myself after she told me how rad the place was. Sad to know it's gone. Thanks for the video, that's how I'll remember the joint. Edited November 28 by JeromFranzic don't need one, the thing is gone... 1
Midnoot Posted November 28 Posted November 28 Pretty immersive sim. * plays CucumberPlank 2077 again* Thanks. 1

If it was a cost thing that contributed to the decsion rather then lost interest, it's to be hoped they relocated to a place where the cost of regions is free or at least more managable. Any idea if that was the case? Edited November 28 by Arielle Popstar 1
JeromFranzic Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Umm... hold up! I checked to see if Hangars was shuttered. It is just the single region. I checked the search page and HL is still listed. Here I am taking a break to check my cellphone a few moments ago. (Also noticed Djehan Kidd was present before I left, shortly after I snapped this shot.) 1 2

I think he's always there, but AFK. The one-region version is sort of like a museum of the full project. Edited November 29 by animats 1
AmeliaJ08 Posted Saturday at 02:13 PM Posted Saturday at 02:13 PM (edited) It's sad when these amazing creative projects have to close but... if there's nobody to pay the bills. Creativity is very expensive in SL, it's a shame. Edited Saturday at 02:14 PM by AmeliaJ08 3

It isn't toned down as far as the overall aesthetic, just a smaller area to look at and experience. I miss the Olympic sized pool, but the open house apartments maintain their decadent vibe. Yesssss plz =p

I have dreams for 100 regions, but a wallet that doesn't justify even one. That's life. Edited Saturday at 02:51 PM by Sid Nagy 2 1

Some projects require the space, even one region is enormously expensive when considering the actual resources consumed. I know this is LL's business model these days (maybe always was) but the lack of flexibility and high cost of regions is limiting as far as creative sim building goes. 3

JeromFranzic Posted Saturday at 08:19 PM Posted Saturday at 08:19 PM I haven't rented anything yet in SL. That's news to me, a rental office being hard to find. Sometimes I explore abandoned areas, and am occasionally greeted in IM with some rental owner advertising their wares to me, asking if I'm interested in renting a plot of land. 1

There are rental boards, but you have to know where they are. There's one for each region. One is in City Hall. One is in the tram station in Port Babbage. One is in the main train station in Babbage Palisade. One is in an underwater tunnel under the Vernian Sea. I don't know where the others are. The large amount of unrented land may be related to this. 2

I've visited Hangars Liquides a few times, and always found it a brilliant build. I too have pondered having a sim or two of my own - until I saw the price tag! O_O 2

( Waits for those without their priorities straight to tell me how they own 5 sims while making less. c-c) 1
gwynchisholm Posted Monday at 10:37 AM Posted Monday at 10:37 AM It’s like $170/month for a full sim right? Thats definitely an expense not accessible to people who aren’t invested into SL as a primary hobby, but then those are probably the only people who would buy a full sim anyway. 2
Nexii Malthus Posted Monday at 11:51 AM Posted Monday at 11:51 AM Aw shame only heard of this now, would have taken full flycam footage of the sims and let some other machinima creators know as well

Not as expansive as before, but maybe worth it for a shorter video. 1

It was before my time, but there was at one time a full model of Versailles in Second Life. It's long gone, but the web site about it is still up. 3
