Steve Oval Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Hi Folks The tittle says it all. I want to buy a cat for my home but know nothing about pets in SL. Is there knowledge base somewhere. I have looked at places inwold but they are unmanned soo nobody to ask for information. Any links to appropriate threads greatly appreciated, wether forum or knowledge base. I think there is some sort of grading system which I assume determines what the cat is able to do. Thanks in advance Steve 3
Persephone Emerald Posted November 22 Posted November 22 (edited) Jian is a good place to start when looking for a pet. Their animals are relatively cheap, especially if you find an old No Copy one on the SL Marketplace. The animals from Rezz Room cost a bit more, but are very nice. Both shops offer pets that can be attached as a companion or rezzed to wander around your parcel. They both also have some free group gifts. There are also Kitty Cats that need to be fed and cared for. This type of pet is more work and has a higher impact on the functionality of your land, but they can feel more real because they need attention and respond positively to it. They can also be bred to produce offspring. p.s. To ask for information from a store, either join their store group and ask in the group chat or send a notecard to the store owner or manager with a specific question. Stores in SL seldom have a live customer service representative actually in the inworld shop. Edited November 22 by Persephone Emerald 4

Jaylinbridges Posted November 22 Posted November 22 (edited) 1 hour ago, Steve Oval said: Any links to appropriate threads greatly appreciated, wether forum or knowledge base I raise Kittycats, so I am somewhat biased. But you can join their Forum KittyCats Addicts: secondlife:///app/group/277f5464-f119-e489-4517-ad3d0dd63cc8/about and check out their Manual on their website: https://kittycats.ws/manual/ or their main shop http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/KittyCatS/129/102/25 There are about 50 kittycat voice auctions/week inworld - and another 100 or so shops and in world markets that sell the offspring of the kittycats. After 15 years they are still the most popular cat. They can be a non breedable pet, or a breedable cat for the first 120 days. They will also loan you their avatar, if you actually want to be a cat. You must either feed them, one cat costs 170L to feed for 8 weeks. Or you can perma-pet them so they no longer need any food, and will wake up on your command. They have more features than other cat brands, but they also act like real life cats. You cannot herd them, or tell them what to do, because they will ignore you like any real cat, or bother you when you are busy. They have a personality, that seems to remember how you treat them. They also know where you are, and a group can surround you, waiting for a good cat tale. I always suggest you get two cats, since they can also play with each other then. Contrary to some opinions, they are not laggy inworld if you have some room for them to roam, and make your trees phantom. One avatar will produce more lag than 30 kittycats. We have 20 live ones at our home, and the actual statistics show no measurable lag. After 15 years in SL their resale market is somewhat saturated, meaning you can probably get a kittycat for free, or just a few 100L. Rare collectable kittycats can sell for 25,000 L however, since this is also a collectable market with millions of trait combinations. If you want to control them then get a Dog with a HUD and tell it just what to do. Edited November 22 by Jaylinbridges 2
WeFlossDaily Posted November 22 Posted November 22 I just bought me a cheap mesh kat I can hold or put on the floor. It looks like a cat. But it's pretty much a prop. It's good enough for me, though. I call it Chubby Kat and joke about feeding it tacos. Great fun. 3
Stephanie Misfit Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Zooby's has animesh cats, they are really nice, I would recommend them. 2
Steve Oval Posted November 23 Author Posted November 23 Thank you all for your helpful advice. Especially Jalinbridges for the links . Exactly what I need given I know nothing about them. I love my RL rescue cat, hand raised from about 2 hours old and now 7 years. I have her photo on my wall in SL but like the idea of a cat running around. I will research all the options but probably steer clear of the 25K ones Thanks again 1

With kittycats, you can usually find a matching fur, eyes, ears and tail like your RL cat. I have lost five RL cats, and have their little ghosts still in SL. Some even have halos and angel wings (optional of course.) Edited November 23 by Jaylinbridges 2
Stephanie Misfit Posted November 23 Posted November 23 Kittycats are really cool but OP needs to be aware that they are a commitment, with ongoing costs for food unless you want your cat to get sick. Alternatively you can pay a fair chunk of lindens to permapet your cat and avoid the feeding / potential sickness. Zooby's cats have an optional care system and accessories, I don't use that system personally, but that can add some realism to your pet without the risk of it outright getting sick. 1
Sadvhi Posted November 23 Posted November 23 You can purchase a cat avatar for an alt and equip it with a needs system like Caring You! or MyStory to care for it as if it were a real pet. While dual logging is an option, I prefer using Smartbots since my PC can't handle dual logging efficiently, and I enjoy enhancing its interactions with the AI (GPT) Local Chat Autoresponder addon to enable emoting. This setup is similar to what I use for my baby and child bots, but I’ve also applied it to pets. I use the Caring Assistant HUD to let the cat avatar roam around the house and yard, interact with its bed and toys, follow me, and teleport with me. Additionally, I equip the cat with a sound HUD for purring, meowing, and other sounds. I’ve done this with a variety of animals, not just cats—I’ve even created custom sound HUDs for my insect and bird pets lol 1

Thanks in advance Steve I can't recommend Zooby's cats highly enough. I've had one since around 2008 and it has lifetime free updates, came with accessories, is fully able to interact with my avatar, and can be set to patrol a home. They do other animals too. You'll be spoilt for choice. 2

Miguel Rowley Posted November 23 Posted November 23 (edited) People here already gave you good places to start looking for a pet. In case that you want to check out for more, SEmotion Libellune also has very cute cats. Edited November 23 by Miguel Rowley

Rolig Loon Posted November 23 Posted November 23 Here's my Jian pet cat (well, a tiger IS a cat), walking beside me on a stroll through the Fantasy regions of Bellisseria. It's a cool cat. 2
Chery Amore Posted November 23 Posted November 23 Whew. I went to Zooby's last night and def has the cute, variety and things to do... although I didn't see them in action. I don't mind how expensive they are initially but that continuing to pay for supplies is wild. Can anyone explain how that works out price wise? I guess they wont go near the food bowl or just animate it if I'm not buying the food for them right? Is that the same for the litter box? I even noticed cleaning supplies. I'm just wondering if I lose most of the animated cuteness if I don't pay forever for it.

Thanks in advance Steve I personally have a census of like 35-40 KittyCats which are eating me out of house and home and I am constantly trying to reduce and/or sell them. I just like them. They do the most of all the pets in my view (although they don't rub your legs like the sionchickens used to do!) and they have fun names when they are born and random traits that might come out pretty or interesting or rare so there's that to keep you hooked. But if you don't want to feed the pets, then go and look at Jian and others that move and do stuff, including serve as shoulder pets or walk as a companion, but don't require that constant money sink of feeding. There's also Hextraordinary. I found an old gatcha Meowl on the MP last night and I am very happy with him, I had already put out a bunch in my rentals. Also fun, they move a bit, but don't need feeding or care. 2

I don't know about ongoing costs for food and stuff, I have opted not to use any of that and the cat is great, it walks around the house with lots of different animations and doesn't fall through the floor like some other pets I have used. 1 1
