Lucieebeth Posted November 21 Posted November 21 So I just recently got a MacBook for my birthday and just started in Second Life on it. While I have played SL on a regular PC, it’s just a bit confusing on a MacBook. I was just wondering if there was anybody who has been on SL for a while and used a MacBook? Some of the flying shortcuts are a bit confusing. Teleporting home is another weird one. There really is no “right clicking” option either. Please help! 1

Hi, I use a macbook after using a pc for a long time. I found the answers to the key differences on google, and there were only a few that I really use a lot like flying is the fn key and the up/down arrow. I think zooming in on people/objects was a bit different, its the option key and then the scrollwheel on the mouse to zoom in on something and the option+command keys and arrows to rotate around them. I am not sure how this stuff works if you are not using a mouse. Geez, I hope I am getting this right lol Not sure what you mean by teleporting. I dont think I have ever used a shortcut to do that, which shows what a dinosaur I am. I am sure some clever person will explain that one. And I am not sure what you mean by there is no right clicking. Is this a scrollpad thing? You might need a quick class in using the scrollpad if you arent using a mouse. One point - it also may make a difference which viewer you are using as to how odd some of these things are. When I changed to a macbook I did have to tweak a few settings to get it to run nicely, and even today there is a difference between the performance for me depending on which viewer I am using. I get best performance using Alchemy but it has some annoying glitches. The official viewer works fine too, but for me seems to crash regularly/ freeze. Anyhow... thats a start, if you type second life macbook and then whatever you are after into a search engine, you should see lots of resources to help. 1
Space Zehetbauer Posted November 21 Posted November 21 And when I mentioned scrollpad, I meant trackpad. Some people use that so expertly, I need to use a mouse. If you are using the trackpad, or trying to, then you will need to become expert at that first I imagine. 🙂 1
Nexii Malthus Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I prefer WASD controls, which you can enable in the client preferences. Besides WASD it allows you to press E to jump and hold E to fly as well. Also coupled with WASD, the most dynamic way to control your avatar is to hold your nametag, which allows you to rotate your view and avatar together which works well with the trackpad and then tapping WASD to move/strafe. 2 1
