Juna Starlight Posted November 17 Posted November 17 Hi, I plan to buy a mac mnini M4 pro but i can't find any information if the SL viewer or Firestorm will run on it because it use AMR chips or so. if it run, how good will it be? Right now i use a windows computer with a RTX 2080TI and Ryzen 9 3900 and 64GB Ram there sl runs perfect, then i also have a max mini end 2012 running mac os 15 (with open core) for surfing and youtube abs so it is ok but as runs suuuper slow. i want quit use windows and stay at apple but before i neet to know if sl runs fine hugs Juna
Randy Pole Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I run SL on an iMac M3 with 24GB. Whilst it does experience a performance drop thanks to having to run via Rosetta2 it performs fine enough unless you want to have it at ultra settings all of the time. SL has for a while been less than stellar on Macs thanks mostly to Apple and their dislike of OpenGL so it uses a dated version. 1
discussionbot Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I’m picking up an M4 Mac Mini Pro 48GB and curious how it’ll turn out. It runs decent on my 2020 Intel MBP, so should hopefully be some level of upgraded performance.
MarissaOrloff Posted November 29 Posted November 29 I bought a base M4 Mini about 2 weeks ago and it is fine for most uses. I run with graphics at 6/7 with a 1440p monitor and even in regions with 50+ people it will run between 10-15 fps (YMMV). It's almost twice as powerful as my 16GB M2 Mini and just falls a bit short of my 18GB M3Pro MacBook Pro. You can tweak those numbers by using lower quality graphics and smaller screen size to get a better result. Of course it's not in the same league as my RTX-4090 that I use in Linux. But, for $599 it's a complete no brainer to purchase. There is nothing better at that price point. It will run hot though so, if you don't already have, buy fan control software like TG Pro. When the fan is running though it's really noisy!
