EmmaLeeEL Posted November 16 Posted November 16 So a guy doesn't like my fashion and the sound my outfit made and then decided to IM me, calling the sound as *****noise and calling me disgusting then blocked me, can I report someone for this? 1
2 Rowan Amore Posted November 17 Posted November 17 16 hours ago, EmmaLeeEL said: the sound my outfit made Perhaps when out in public, you could either turn off the sound, if possible, or not wear clothing that makes a sound? I'm not saying people should make rude comments but I wouldn't wear something out that might disturb others with unwanted noise. 1 1

Just adding as an afterthought, there's this rather smashing thread where anyone and everyone is welcome to share photos of how their avatar is looking on any given day. All shapes, sizes, species are most welcome. Please take a look and add your own photos too if you would like to. 1 1
0 Cinnamon Mistwood Posted November 16 Posted November 16 (edited) No, not liking someone's clothing is not a reportable offense. Blocking someone is not a reportable offense. Calling someone names is not a reportable offense. I'm sorry you got your feelings hurt. Edited November 16 by Cinnamon Mistwood 5

If ANYONE does this to you in the future, don't respond to them, just block THEM. Second Life is full of much better people. You don't have to tolerate this kind of poor behaviour from someone who just wanted to get a reaction from you. Welcome to Second Life and the forums. 3
0 Persephone Emerald Posted November 16 Posted November 16 (edited) You can report someone for hurting your feelings, but it's not going to do any good. There is no moderation in SL to protect your feelings. Even if other users act like childish fools and bullies, this is a virtual world platform for adults. Your best response to someone making fun of you or irritating you in SL is to block and mute them, then teleport away if you're done shopping or whatever you were doing at that place. In RL, your parents might have told you to say "Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." SL is like this. Nothing the other people do here is likely to actually hurt you, so ignore them and don't continue to engage with them. If you think you can't just ignore A-holes in a virtual world, then SL may not be the right platform for you. On the other hand, there is bad behavior you should report, such as virtual sexual activity that includes a child avatar. This is actually against the rules in SL. 0 EmmaLeeEL Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 (edited) Thanks for the answers guys, I just need someone to confirm it. And I actually not hurt by the words, I was just thinking if I can report this guy for being rude so he can get suspended or banned so he can't hurt others. Plus I literally passed by him many times he just stay quiet and this time I only AFK just beside him and he just IM me and start being a jerk. Edited November 16 by EmmaLeeEL Details 2
0 SandorWren Posted November 16 Posted November 16 OK, let's be serious here. Reporting someone for calling you disgusting in SL would be the same as calling 911 in RL if they did the same. 3

0 Love Zhaoying Posted November 17 Posted November 17 Instead of reporting someone for being "mean", just "block/ignore" them - this makes them "disappear" for you. People are not obligated to be "nice", and it does not break any "Terms of Service" if they are rude or mean. 4

What is wrong, I am sure though, is making personal remarks about someone's appearance in order to purposefully hurt their feelings. It is, what my brother would call, "a c*nt's trick". I have also directed the OP towards the more pleasant How does your avatar look today thread in which we can all showcase our appearance, cute, ugly, or otherwise. 2

OP tells nothing about where and how, so don't lecture me on my posts that have the same level of assumptions as yours.

In-world chat and voice in Second Life are not censored by Linden Lab at all. Those means of communication have a limited range. Even with /shout, you can only reach 100 meters. You can block people who annoy you. You can move somewhere else. If you own land, you can keep them off your land. At some popular places, such as clubs, you may be able to get the club management, which is another user or users who operate the club, to ban someone from the club. This is quite common. So you have the tools to deal with serious problems. The range limit on annoyances is one of the things that makes Second Life work. Somewhere in Second Life,, someone is probably being a jerk right now. Almost nobody is noticing. This world is the size of Los Angeles. Screaming into the void is possible but futile. Now, these forums here are different from the 3D world. These forums are a broadcast medium, and are hand-censored by a Linden Lab staff member for annoyance and political correctness. 13 hours ago, Marigold Devin said: I have also directed the OP towards the more pleasant How does your avatar look today thread in which we can all showcase our appearance, cute, ugly, or otherwise. This is useful advice. Second Life has a very powerful and flexible clothing and avatar shape system. It is all too easy to create a fashion disaster or wardrobe malfunction. Many new users have problems with this. Try visiting one of the new user help areas and get clothing advice. 4

Have you considered NOT using a sound with your outfit? Most people do not use sounds with their outfits.
