JeromFranzic
Anyone out there tested these builds for older PC's? I am on a GTX 1050 GPU with a 8th Gen Intel Core i7 that has the AVX2 instructions on chip but I'll try them anyway. They are aimed to be used in PCs that are ten years or older. If you are in this category, please post your experiences. Β I'll check back later... I'll try it first in Linux. You can download the non AVX2 beta builds here: https://www.firestormviewer.org/early-access-beta-downloads-legacy-cpus/
Rick Nightingale
I've only just learned about those. My main SL rig is on an Intel i7 2600K, Gen 2 without AVX2. I just installed it since FS's latest update said "No!". Now on 7.1.11 (76496) (Legacy), and all seems OK so far. Thought I had a FPS boost for a moment until I realised the install had reset my preferences to medium. Back to normal now I've put it back how I like it. If I spot anything notable in the build I'll report back. It's also made me start shopping for a new PC again. Probably not a good time to buy with nVidia about to launch the next generation of space heaters, and Intel and AMD bringing new CPUs to market. I'm trying to decide if grabbing an RTX 4080 Super right now is a good idea while they are still around (rumours of nVidia stopping making them; or will they will get cheaper when the 50xx launch???), and wait for the CPU to finish the build when the new ones are out and I make my mind up about Intel vs AMD.
