Do I need a Conception HUD in order to get pregnant?

I've been reading all about pregnancy in SL and I'm just trying to understand if I need a conception HUD to get preggers. Someone told me I don't. That you get pregnancy HUDs after.

basically, you can not really get pregnant, you just have to pretend. There are probably things you can buy or get for free on the marketplace that will simulate a pregnancy, wait, let me check...
