Can you remember your first days in SL? Do you have an interesting experience to share with us?

Let me get the ball rolling…

Many moons ago, I was studying a university degree called Bachelor of Internet Studies. Half way through the course they announced that we would undertake a major project for the rest of the course and that project was to immerse ourselves in an “Online community” and study it. This was in about 2006.

Having no idea what an online community was, I googled it and discovered this thing called Second Life - which sounded interesting.

So I logged in, picking the first option for an avatar, so I was a male that first day.
After a few days roaming around this unusual virtual world I was totally lost and knew there was no hope that I could immerse myself in it. As an ugly geeky male, women weren’t interested in talking to me, and males just wanted to discuss well, you know what.

And then I met a young woman, named Sidnee. She chatted to me, and laughed when I told her my story. She told me that if I wanted to freely chat to others I should be a female. Guys would seek me out and chat to me, females would easily chat to me.
So I logged out, created a new account and became Space.
Sidnee then took me under her wing, modelled me into her vision of something wonderful and schooled me in many aspects of SL, including intimacy, and she certainly spent a lot of time making sure I was an expert lesbian in SL lol

And my studies went into the bin. I didn't want to analyse Second Life, I wanted to live it! And I did.

Its all a long time ago, but I will never forget it.

What about you?

How could I forget?

These are my first days in Second Life and in just three short weeks, I already have stories...lol.

Yes...strange...I know...Second Life started over 20 years ago...how many people are this late to a party??  Yes, I have catching up to do.  I'm just glad the party is still hopping. :)

For various reasons, my social life died a couple of decades ago.  MMOs were my only release.  And for years, I've bounced through various virtual worlds, always disappointed at the lack of focus on the social & life sim elements.  Then, about three weeks ago, someone in a chat room in the virtual world I just came from mentioned this place.  I was very intrigued by their description and decided to check it out...

18 days later, I've learned that the description they gave me barely scratched the surface of life here.  Every immersive memory is still so fresh as if it happened yesterday and all of it at a level of detail that has me completely mesmerized.  From the first day when I encountered all the different body parts (ALL of them...) for sale at that freebie place in London to club-hopping this past weekend in a dress that barely covered my body with an already close friend to last night's arousing encounters at one of my favorite spots, everything I've been through in these short three weeks has done nothing but blow my mind over and over again.

/me smiles and thanks everyone involved with all her heart. ♥

Oh wow, just three weeks old!

Welcome, and it sounds like you are having a very good time.

There is so much to explore in so many different fields of endeavor and it appears you are getting into many of them 🙂

It felt more like 20-30 minute chunks for a long time :) I remember a Scottish guy giving me something to wear on Orientation Island, which was a giant Mudkip attachment that...um...humped you, with very rude noises :o But to be fair, he helped me get it off and then took me to Freebie Galaxy to customise my avatar :x But I somehow got trapped inside one of the walls :S

I remember walking around places like Korea, Moose Beach and Public Sandbox (which was completely nuts) and seeing people dressed like Anubis, or Martian punks, or in gasmasks or TV set heads, and thinking "Why can't I find all these outfits in my inventory?" xD

My arms were SO short.

I started sl with a few people I knew from the sims online, so i was lucky to have a little gang to learn from as we all figured out how to navigate sl. I met a "land seller" from Florida, Shwanson Shlegel  who was a real character, and kind of took me under his wing and showed me lots of stuff. And gave me a flying donut, which i still have today. He had to explain to me that i was wrong about mature land, it didn't mean more established older trees and neighborhoods.

Then went on to meet Marcos Fonzarelli in the old city sims, Miramare i think, where he had a pretty big plot and made amazing futuristic city buildings from prims. As well as his own store where he sold transformer-like avis.

The world was small and cozy in 2004 and everyone knew everyone. Very much a community.
