So when i focus my camera to get ready to take a pic using the focus option (Dof) it doesn’t transfer to my pic. Meaning when i take the pic the background is no longer blurry.

Are you taking your pictures at a different resolution than your window size? Higher resolution in the snapshot makes the depth of field effect diminished in most viewers. Compensating by cranking the F number down (if snapshot resolution is doubled, halve the F number) and the circle of confusion settings up (if snapshot resolution is doubled, quadruple the circle of confusion) gets a reasonably similar look.
