Jesse Addams Posted August 31 Posted August 31 I know this topic has already been brought up, but I noticed in the "Change Name" list there is the surname 'Senne'. I searched that name and it looks that it was a name from 16 years ago? So are they actually bringing retired names back? Or did I look at something wrong? Thanks 2
Garnet Psaltery Posted August 31 Posted August 31 (edited) At a quick check I could see that Senne is a previous name and so is Cerulean. I haven't checked any others yet but those two are definitely recycled or have remained. Interesting. This is the current list: Edited August 31 by Garnet Psaltery Added list. 2
Rowan Amore Posted August 31 Posted August 31 The list provided by LL in the wiki is for all last names used up until Feb. 2023. That would include new last names as well... 1
Rowan Amore Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Below is the list of all last names ever used as of 02 February 2023. Please refer to this list before sending in any last name suggestions. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Current_Last_Names#S 1
Kimmi Zehetbauer Posted August 31 Posted August 31 LL won't even offer limited use of the old names like for giving a spouse's toon the same last name. Speaking of names --- had a friend tell me she tried to change her name, but no matter what combo the system keeps kicking it back. It's a 4 letter name. I told her she might need to lodge a ticket.

In the info text, it only speaks of a "suggested maximum of 31 characters" in regards to length. I was able to choose a name with 4 letters on my own. I ended up wanting another surname, when it was released, and changed the first name along with it, but I definitely had a 4 letter name for a while. Not sure when that was, maybe something changed, but the info still only has the 31 characters max, or your friend tried to have a special character in the name, or maybe the four letter name+surname combination was already taken? Short names might generally be taken sooner, I guess. 1

I think I see what you mean - in the procedure for changing a name the page does say "Changing your account name, whether to a previous name or a new name ..", which I'd have taken to refer to a name that the individual had used before, but perhaps it's growing a little ambiguous now. I don't know where the list of all historic names is either, though I remember it being mentioned sometimes.

SpiritSparrow Skydancer Posted September 1 Posted September 1 I’m pondering going back to Sewell again because of so many skydancers being used. I rarely see Sewell 1

I know that site hasn't been maintained in years so I'm guessing some weird stuff might have crept in since the webmaster seemingly abandoned it. I'm afraid to go there now as I ran the url though an antivirus program and got this result: 2

I rarely see Sewell my alt reverted back from the Skydancer to his Twine name, the first name he's begging for for years was available too. 1
AzureWaves Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Retired last names are NOT coming back. Cerulean dropped in January 2024, so give it a few months or a year for that to reach max usage and removed from the list. Senne could've been launched recently as well. They've had lots of last names in the past that's similar and off by a letter or two.

One weird quirk seems to be, if someone changes their name to something.. let's say "Joe Resident" changes their name to "Jeffrey Smith".. then after a week he says "I hate this, everyone calls me Joe, I'm going back to that" and then pays the fee to change back to Joe Resident.. the name "Jeffrey Smith" is still permanently unavailable to anyone else. I know this because a friend registered a name I REEEEAAAALLLY liked, then released it like a day later. But it's gone, gone, gone. We're still friends tho. •• ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ •• That said, we DESPERATELY need some new last names. Edited September 1 by Honey Puddles

That would indicate that people with those names who have been in SL for several years have changed them recently, though it leaves the question why there are residents with the surname Senne who are oldbies but with little or nothing on their profiles and no payment info on file. Is someone so keen to gift a new name to, say, an alt who does nothing? As for spelling, I checked very carefully. When I get time I'll look up the rest. Of course if a Linden cared to drop by and explain the mystery that would put an end to speculation, but I wouldn't know whose job it is. 1 1
SpiritSparrow Skydancer Posted September 1 Posted September 1 I always asked for handmaiden as a last name then some clever girl used it as a first name don’t remember her last then used a nickname so she is some devils handmaiden or something but I thought clever girl anyway.

That would be quite a bit of people who changed to Senne very recently. It's possible, but I highly doubt it.
Simo Vodopan Posted September 1 Posted September 1 (edited) It would be wild if I saw more 'Vodopans'. In my 18 years of SL I've only seen about 3 others or so. Edited September 1 by Simo Vodopan 2

Good luck finding ones that are active, most of them stopped logging in at this point. Edited September 1 by Simo Vodopan 1

Yeah, tons of "desolate" Accounts. I do wish they would bring back proper names for new accounts, not fair that people have to pay for a proper name. 1
