A Safe Thread to Complain About PBR

I think we need a safe place to complain about PBR.

This would be a great place for our wall of text rants.

like if there was a slaita subrriddit then

slaita for complaining about PBR on the official forum when it doesn't work at 300FPS on my 4090 potato? 😿

In 2003 when they switched away from the more traditional attire and adopted more sportlike jerseys plastered with sponsor logos, I really feel that's when the sport became too corporate, you know? Bring back the clowns!

is a riff on the AITA subreddit. Am I The A*hole because I did something to somebody and they didn't like it

people respond with comments and ratings. Typically NTA Not the A. YTA Yes you the A. NAH Nobody is the A here. ESH Everybody sucks here

For me, reddit tastes like dust and plastic, I would not suggest it without smearing a little honey on your monitor first.  

To keep with the thread, I still think PBR is a homewrecker.

Calling it a homewrecker is the best description so far, as PBR divides us.

I love reading old reddit  The new reddit ap is stupid though.  Much more entertaining then reading the same 4 posters on the SL forum.  

Also i hate PBR.   Didn't need to write a paragraph.  Yes i can run lindens PBR Viewer yes i still hate PBR.  

Our laptops will die in one year now instead of two ... thanks PBR.

Yeah prefacing this with the fact that I can easily get 60+ FPS in a crowded club with my setup. It's not about that. It's about net negative to how everything looks. It ruins old builds and creates a new learning curve for anyone who wants to have a nice looking club or home.

What percentage of the grid do you think will succeed at doing so over the next year? Meanwhile everything else will remain / become even more ugly over time.

Most of my favourite places to hang out on the grid have not been updated in ages. That's on me I guess, but pre-PBR at least all us avatars looked good. We could instantly flip through any number of beautiful lighting settings.  Now we have the latest fancy tech but in reality it feels like a regression everywhere I look. Back to the days of dreaded facelights where everyone feels they need to wear their own personal lighting and reflection probes just to see what they are wearing properly.

Yeah, I meet more people and have more fun at crappy old clubs than I do at the well decorated, high-traffic destinations that cost 1000 L$ to get in. And I have made the rounds many times at all the trendy clubs.

Sadly every selling point about PBR seems to be about creating products and images. It does nothing for the social side of SL and may end up being a net negative.

Grats bloggers on that one mirror pic we all got to take though!

I noticed this also.

There are a lot of creators who want to embrace the new thing and then sell it too us, which would be fine, if the new thing was good for us, but I don't think it is.

PBR is like a gateway drug. Next comes 2k-textures. Then glTF. PBR Voice is also coming. And LUAu. I believe SL is doomed if we continue down the current path.
