Question

Posted

I don't want to start yet another bot thread so asking here rather than in General, in the hopes it goes largely unnoticed, but not completely.

Does anyone know if there's an existing feedback request for parcel-level controls to restrict scripted agent access? Particularly at Linden Homes. I was sure there was, because I want to comment on it, but can't find it.

It took all of a few hours for my new Linden Home to be invaded by the B****** Bots, right above my head. Not having that scum-run stuff here!

No, the Linden Homes covenant says explicitly, "Scripted Agents (aka β€˜bots’) are not allowed in Linden Homes regions, either as a β€˜home’ or canvasing the estate for the purpose of collecting data."Β  You should at least be submitting ARs against individual bots and their owners.Β  I know that doesn't answer your more important question about setting access controls yourself, but the covenant should mean that bots are already restricted.

There's the AGENT_AUTOMATED flag of llGetAgentInfo to establish which of the avatars from llGetAgentList are bots, and then one could deal with them accordingly.

But on Belli, if it's in the covenant, why wouldn't the "deny_bots" region environment parameter be set? If I were in-world I'd be inclined to run llGetEnv on a few Belli regions to see if maybe one just got accidentally cleared or something. (It happens, as I recently learned after days of confused investigation.)

Thanks, it didn't seem right. (I assumed Rick meant LH as in, "Linden Premium Home" where LL owns the "Estate", and not a Rental / Owned parcel on an Estate owned by someone else.)

Oh, excellent, thank you! I've just been reading the covenant myself, now. It's Sakura, and it's in there. AR will happen shortly!

I did check the bot out when I saw it, it is one of theirs.

Bizarre! The implication is, it is not set as a "Scripted Agent"..otherwise you'd think it is not allowed entry into the Region!

Subtle difference....Β  Β  "Not allowed" = "Don't do this" != "Can't do this".Β  It seems the burden is still on the landowner to report a rule breaker.

Precisely. Which is of course why the parcel level no-bot access control is needed. I'll try to find that feature request again later; I was convinced there was one already. If not I'll create one.

I've AR'd the culprit, although there seems no appropriate category for the AR. I used harassment as it's the closest to the case.

I know we must have discussed this to death when it first happened, maybe too much time passed for us to remember how it was handled for Belli / LH land.

Turns out it is set on. I just had a look.

Which likely means the bot was not registered as such. I wasn't quick enough (too busy really IRL) to check its status at the time with llGetAgentInfo.

Yeah, and at that time I never thought I would be in an LH (or in charge of an estate) so wouldn't have taken much notice of those bits.
