Hi folks.

I recently went back to using the SL viewer and stayed with it since they've added the "improve graphics speed" feature. Even without it I noticed my FPS was so much better than before and better than FS and even Genesis. I use SL in 4K/UHD and with the ultra graphics preset (altered to be slightly more) and in my simple home I was getting a constant 45 FPS. Today though I'm only getting 10 FPS. I tried clearing the cache and also using "improve graphics speed", but it struggled to reach 20 FPS. I'm not sure what's going on because yesterday I was getting a higher framerate, even in busy areas.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Edit: I just put my ultra graphics preset back on, quit SL, cleared the cache again and restarted SL. This time I'm getting 38 FPS in my home and to be fair I have a few more things rezzed in here now. I don't know how long that's gonna last though.

For the record.

Anyone telling you to "clear your cache" as a first response to any suspected SL problem is somebody you should NEVER take any technical advice from, EVER.

There are a COUPLE of specific times when you "clear cache". It is not a universal cure-all.

Have you updated your viewer before you noticed the speed drop?

Where is your "simple home"? 45 FPS is actually pretty low. The "slightly more than ultra" line suggests you keep your draw distance quite high. Somebody else may have put out a complicated build far enough away from you for you to not consciously notice it but it may still be calculated by the viewer because it falls within your draw distance.

I see. I'll bear that in mind.

No update since yesterday no. My home's in a largely unpopulated sim with very little lag. My draw distance is at 256 metres. You could be right about an extra build being there since yesterday.

For somebody using 4K? Maybe not.

My PC has an i9 10920X CPU, an RTX 2070 Super GPU (8GB VRAM), 64GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD. It's 4 years old now and doesn't do too bad. :)

Thanks for the feedback.

As someone who was playing in 4k ultra up until recently, 45fps is definitely not low. That’s pretty good to get anywhere, even a quiet home sim.

Hm I don’t play much at the moment at all xD but I was online earlier.
and I am on ultra and mirrors at 2048 resolution. I love PBR 🥰 and had like 200+ fps.
Maybe some hiccups from your internet provider? Could this be? Back when I lived for a while in Germany I had to restart my router every week lol not missing that at all!

Sounds like you've got a much better setup there. :) My ISP is ok really I think, but although the ping is only 7ms (which might not be relevant), it's only 70Mbps DL and 15Mbps UL. So that could be a factor. Thanks Gwin.
