I was out at a shopping event and ran into a woman on my friends list. I didn't remember her, but we got to talking and she was so glad to run into me and told me about her own grid, a kind of charity project related to finding permanent homes for orphaned kids, and she wondered if I wanted to help. Come to find out her daughter just died a month ago, and my daughter has brain cancer and won't be in this world much longer, so it felt like an amazing chance meeting where we could support each other in major ways.  Very unusual. Almost a 'sign' that the vibes of the Universe whoosh around and come together at just the right time once in a blessed while. Serendipity.

So I have to decide...would I be spreading myself too thin to try and help. I've a lot going on...but I do like charity projects I've been involved in...

What's one of your unusual meetings in SL you found amazing?

A music club I used to regularly visit would have some user hosted events, and one guy would just play guitar fed into his audio stream ingame. Pretty good guitarist, all kinds of genres. Found out like a few months later of hearing this guy every so often that SL was just one of many streaming platforms he used, and would be live on all sorts of audio and video streaming sites, a discord channel, twitch, a few podcast type hosting sites, and a similar type of virtual world venue in Roblox.
Out of pure coincidence a friend of mine who’s now a Roblox game developer was telling me about these assorted acts they got together for a virtual show and included that guy, and I was like “oh dope I listen to him on sl all the time”, thought the coincidence was that he also found the same guitarist playing but on Roblox.

But no, the real coincidence was that our multi platform guitarist is my friends younger brother, I’ve effectively known him for like 20 years and just never really asked.

When I had a short conversation with Robin Sojourner when I first joined SL many years ago.  Nothing really amazing, just a short conversation in her sim.  Later when I found out that Robin Sojourner was actually Robin Wood in RL.    She is one of my favorite artists and her teachings affect part of my very faith.

Nothing beats meeting Will Wright himself on his alt in the middle of the old The Sims Online.

Still, a few stand out over the years in SL:

o Years ago -- 20? -- I was flying around Adam Zaius' enclave and all of a sudden I ran into a GIANT dragon in the air. I mean HUUUUGE. Like taking up half a sim. He was stunning, especially when he waved his tale. We then had a perfectly ordinary conversation which I don't remember.

o I started having to log into Seascale after clearing cache because it's a nearly empty Linden sea sim near my rentals. So I would sit underwater there and wait....and wait....for 250,000+ inventory to load (thank GOD I'm back on the regular SL viewer now that my son has finally fixed my computer). So one day I was there kind of ghosting still. A man drove his car off the bridge in Seascale -- by accident (you know how cars get at the sim seam - he was on his way into Maryport).

"Are you alright? You're ghosting." he asked

"Are YOU alright, you just ran off a bridge."

We then talked awhile and concluded that in a virtual world, you are not hurt by ghosting or car crashes. Well, your feelings might be hurt. There's that.

o Then there was the time I ran into Philip Linden in the Welcome Area on one of his walkabouts where he was surrounded by fans, and I asked:

"What qualifies you for your job?"

I meant, you know, running an online community and building a society -- which was what I thought was the real challenge of SL. I think it requires background not just in computer science but psychology (such as Grumpity Linden has), or management of big teams of people, possibly a game GM, possibly a co-op board president or maybe a mid-size company.

Instead, he started telling me about computer science, physics, and something called "neural networks" which he used to have on his profile as his interest.

That was the first time I heard that term. The rest is history.

I had some contact with the co-founder, Robin Linden, and found her to be insightful in a more psychological sense.

RIP Robin, her texture tutorials were a great help to many.

I attended her inworld memorial where I was honored to be able to say a few words about how she affected my life in RL.    She was a wonderful person.

I knew she was ill but still surprised when discovering she'd passed on...

Around 2011 when I was well into my roleplay community I had come across The White Armory store. Oh my I have always loved Bee Dumpling's creations. Even when they were system layers and flexi prims. I purchased some of her gowns and was still learning how to get clothing to fit in those days. The prims were way too big for my avi and I messaged Bee Dumpling asking for advice. She spent the better part of two to three hour teaching me how to resize and adjust flexi prims. After she gave me an entire fatpack of another gown. I was in tears, speechless and humbled at the genuine kindness she had shown a very shy and awkard girl that day (me).

At this past Fantasy Faire was the first time I heard she had passed. I wasn't her friend, but just a loyal customer and this news destroyed me. I never forgot her kindness towards me and always fondly remembered that kindness. To honor her memory in my own small way most of the ensembles I wore during the Faire were from her store. It was my way of saying thank you for her kindness and saying goodbye. I would say that was an incredible meeting for me. Her patience and kindness were amazing.

I'm sorry for your news Luna.
