 Dear Linden Labs Team,
I’m writing to propose a feature that could add a meaningful dimension to the Second Life community: the creation of memorial spaces or graveyards for players who have passed away. Second Life has been a platform where people have built lasting friendships, shared experiences, and created entire lives in a virtual world. For many, it’s been more than just a game—it’s been a community, a second home. Given this deep connection, I believe it would be both meaningful and respectful to offer a way for the community to remember and honor those who have passed on. My suggestion is to introduce memorial spaces within Second Life, such as a virtual graveyard, wall of remembrance, or any other creative form of commemoration. When a player passes away, a landmark could be added to their profile, allowing friends and fellow community members to visit their memorial space. This space could be anything from a platform on a giant wall to a small, personalized tombstone. Additionally, it could be possible for other players to leave flowers or messages at these memorial sites, perhaps with a small donation. The funds collected could be directed towards meaningful causes, such as breast cancer research or other charities, which would add a philanthropic element to this initiative. This would not only honor the memory of the deceased player but also provide support to causes that matter. I recognize there could be challenges, particularly in verifying that a player has truly passed away and that this feature isn't misused. However, given that most players have payment information tied to their accounts, this could be one method of verification. This initiative would be a wonderful way for Second Life to demonstrate care and respect for the lifetime commitment and emotional investment that many players have made in this community. It would also provide a lasting tribute to those who were a part of it. Thank you for considering this suggestion. I would be happy to discuss it further or provide additional thoughts if needed.

Sincerely,
Circe Kiranov

This is a very good idea, but this is not the place to suggest it. When you have an idea for a new or improved SL feature, submit it to feedback.primfeed.com .  In this case, you should offer it as an improvement to an existing feature, since Linden Lab already has a large memorial garden at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Linden Memorial Park/128/128/2 that spans several regions. It is not heavily used today and could use a redesign.  There are also several privately maintained memorial gardens in SL.
