Hi everyone,

So i am thinking about renting land. But recently i have had problems with my bank account. So it got me thinking. If i rent land, and a payment doesnt go through. Do i lose all my hard work on the apartment? And what if i build my own house (if thats possible)....will all that work be gone too...

But the real question is,will i lose the furniture i bought?

Normal your objects will go back in the 'lost & found' in your inventory when objects get returned to you.

I forgot how things worked with NO COPY items.

If you make a house from separate prime and not link them. You get it back as parts.

Yes, you will get everything you own returned in the "Lost and found" map (when there is no major glitch somewhere along the line).

There is one problem: you will not get them back peace after peace. SL will atomatically cluster them in 1 or more big chunks.
When you rez that package everything will rez at the same time and then you can take them into inventory seperately. So you need land to do this.
Most of the time a sandbox will be the right place to unpack the chunks of goods you got back from a land clearance.

If you only rez copyable items on your rented land than there is no problem at all. Each item will stay in your inventory and you will be only putting up copies from your inventory item. Than there is no need to unpack said chunks in a sandbox.
It is only the non copy items that can be lost, by making mistakes.

This sounds like private rentals rather than Linden Homes. There are two cases where you could lose no copy items. Both apply to private regions only. In one, the land owner doesn't pay the tier for the region, so it suddenly goes down. In the other, the land owner bans you and doesn't return the stuff, so you can't return to get it. Sticking to copy furniture is much safer when you rent privately.

This doesn't apply to mainland rentals, as the region belongs to the Lindens and you'll always be able to get close enough to cam in and pick things up.

It doesn't apply to having a Linden Home or owning a piece of mainland. In those cases, the Lindens own it, so you'll always be able to get back to it (and stuff will be autoreturned at some point if you stop paying).

Do be careful not to place a no copy item right before a region restart though. Sometimes the region will roll back and stuff disappears that way.

It's good to check the permissions on furniture before you buy it - I rarely buy anything that isn't copy/mod.  If all the objects in your home are copiable, at least you have them still in your inventory.

The "big chunks" Sid is talking about are called "coalesced objects".  If you're not familiar with them, do read that link - they can be handy to use to backup unlinked builds, in case you want to reuse something.  Here are a few cautions:

> The name of a coalesced object is the name of the last item that was added to the group selected.  So, if the Lindens return everything from your land when you lose it, the name of the chunk in your Lost and Found folder will be some random object's name.

> When you rez a coalesced object, the stuff in it will be rezzed in the same physical positions, relative to each other, that they occupied in your build.  This is a great reason to rez it in a sandbox as opposed to on a parcel!  Say you had a 2-story home, the objects will rez at all heights etc.  I usually do this in a fairly unpopulated skybox, on a platform I put up in empty air space.  Here's a list of sandboxes

> Also, let's say you regained your land.  It might be tempting to just stand in the middle and rez the coalesced object - generally this doesn't work well.  If it rezzes at all, usually some objects within the coalesced object will try to rez outside the boundaries of your land, so they will either 'bounce' back to a location near your border, or they won't rez at all.  Generally it's best to rez the coalesced object in a sandbox, take the nocopy stuff back one by one, and rebuild.  If you're really concerned about losing the work you did creating a home, it can be best to save that in a rez box.

If all your items in your house are copy its no biggie if they get cluster returned because you have another set.

For no copy items such as Intan dance hearts you may want to pick it up just in case ...

I "lost" mine this way, the cluster was returned say named "hatbox" and I never thought to rez hatbox until one day I did and low and behold there was my Intan among the rest of the house lot. This was found After I had purchased another one.

Would be helpful if those coalesced objects were named better, I'm assuming the last object to be coalesced is the one that names the entire thing?

I'd say so but I don't really know how it works just that it happens.

Downside is that if one is in the same place for a longer time, one easily forgets that there was that one item in the package that was no copy.
I have lost a few nice pieces of art over the years that way.
I hate it when artists sell no copy.
