I am on 6.6.17.70368.  The past couple days I have crashed after several hours, getting a "BugSplat" error message pop up. (See attached photo). No issues with computer as it is a higher end gaming laptop. Up until yesterday (Aug 19th) I was having no issues with Firestorm. Same issue with the current release. Is this being looked into???? i

Firestorm 7.1.9.74745 Release has a big bug, FIRE-34201 that is causing bugsplats. Fix for the moment is to disable mirrors. Has been fixed in alphas, use that (available in Firestorm Preview Group notices) if you wish to use mirrors. https://jira.firestormviewer.org/browse/FIRE-34201?jql=text ~ "bugsplat" ORDER BY created DESC%2C creator DESC

As for 6.6.17.70368 though...I can't find any, that release is generally very stable. What do your log files say?

I would suggest being a little bit more polite in your crash message too, the devs do receive those. If you're experiencing a crash then raise it on JIRA and provide the information that may help to resolve it.

The viewer version you are currently running is old and will not get updates.

Ideally you should be using the version 7 viewer now but you might want to hold back on that until the testing of various fixes is completed. Keep an eye on https://www.firestormviewer.org and by all means do report your issue with the crashes using the JIRA link on that page. Also consider joining the Firestorm support group in world (they are in many different languages) where unpaid volunteers will do their best to assist you. Unlike the LL viewer, Firestorm (and other third party viewers) are developed and supported by unpaid volunteers so a bit of politeness and understanding that they do not have a magic wand to fix everything goes a long way.

thousands of people, maybe even 10s of thousands, are still using that version without constant crashes. So while yes it could be viewer related, I would also check your own computer. Maybe a recent windows update? new hardware? maybe try a system restore back to a known good point. Maybe look in windows error logging see if you can glean any information there. What other programs do you have running when this crashed? Was there something updating in the background or another process running ? Is your viewer whitelisted? Maybe your computer just needs a good ol fashion reboot. Maybe run a chkdsk or a  sfc /scannow command

Since 6.6.17 probably won't be maintained anymore by the Firestorm team:

If you are still having this issue, would you mind clicking on the "View Report Details" button and pasting the text here?

Hopefully they can paste the text, instead of taking another literal photograph of the screen!

My apologies to any Developer that may see those. Just frustrating is all. Is anything being done, to resolve the bug?

I understand, as I said though 6.6.17.70368 is generally very stable (unlike the current 7.1.9 release...) and I can't even find any unresolved serious bugs on JIRA for that version but that might be me being bad at using the site.

Can you take a look at "C:\Users\jeffw\AppData\Roaming\Firestorm_x64\logs\Firestorm.log" immediately after a bugsplat crash occurs in 6.6.17.70368, it will be a big file but the relevant information (if there is any) will be towards the bottom of the file (most recent events go to the bottom). It's a bit of a messy file and does contain some somewhat-personal information such as information on where you were, avatars around you etc so you may not wish to share it but if you're comfortable with that we could take a look to see if there's something going on.

Will do if it happens again. I did a clean reinstall of it and so far is good

I am also getting this issue - but it generally seems to be now when I try and look at my groups ( premium member ).      Firestorm doesn't like it at all and crashes and I get this bugsplat message ( which I cannot paste so attach a file ).      I have no issue with any other avatar - just this one who is my store owner and a premium member.      She also has much less in her inventory than other avatars I have.    I cannot upgrade to the new version of firestorm because my pc simply will not handle it.

Which version of Firestorm are you using? is it 6.6.17.70368 like KarraSue?

If you can get in world first thing would be to go to Help > About Firestorm and copy/paste everything to a post here.

Oh yeah the release 7.1.9.75657? it's basically broken as far as the severe bugs. Use the latest alpha, it's all fixed as far as I can tell and far more stable.

A new release is coming very soon as far as I know

Given the sudden amount of those reports on the viewer that was not changed since its release, so the 6.6.17, I would guess it's related to some windows update as usual, perhaps? Windows update is killed on my systerm as usual (I update manually when and to what I want to), and can't say I've had a single crash in the last month or so (one in total since 7.1.9's release, and I know what caused it, and it's not the viewer itself).

I am having this exact same issue. It is only occurring on one account and when I touch the groups tab.

I was first using 6.6.14 then when the issue began I updated to 6.6.17 but that made no difference. When I then did a clean install I was able to change groups successfully twice, then when I went for a third try I crashed. Now I will immediately crash just from touching the groups tab.

Again this is only on firestorm and only on this account, my other accounts are fine

Just curious, have you installed and used the 7.1.9 release? we're seeing a lot of people getting new crashing behaviour on older versions and I'm wondering if it's maybe something to do with something in the settings that maybe 7.1.9 has changed and is affecting older versions.

No I never tried the new PBR updates. I have been on 6.6.14 since September 2023, and only updated to 6.6.17 after this issue. But updating did not do much of a difference

I started using the PBR release and deided that for now I would go back to the previous  one.  I've never had bugsplat errors in the many yers I've used FS until the last few days.  Some say it is group related and in the jiras maybe something getting truncated when updating the files in the log area.  I rename the chat log file and restart seems to resollve it for a while.  The crash does seem to be group log related.

Someone finally said they started crashing after joining a specific group and I checked the group's profile: they are using a 2048x1024 profile image, which used not to be possible until the higher res texture update. Old viewers will handle 2048x textures gracefully on *objects* and display them as 1024x, but that might be a clue to track if they're not compatible with group profile images.

Adding to the above instead of just editing: asked someone on 6.6.14 to test a group with a 2048x1024 profile image and they were able to use group chat, list groups and view the group's profile without crashing, so it may have been a red herring or there's some other settings interacting with it (interface style? chat header style? just spitballing).

That is interesting. So how would I know if a group is using a 2048 texture? And do you know which group that person was referring to?
