The 40L fee is for the 2K textures which are generally not needed.  Restrict your upload size to 1024 maximum to avoid the extra charge.

Uploading files to Second Life costs a fee which depends on your membership type:

  • Basic & Plus accounts: L$10 per upload (sounds & standard textures), L$50 (high resolution textures up to 2048x2048)
  • Premium accounts: L$10 per upload (sounds & standard textures), L$40 (high resolution textures up to 2048x2048)
  • Premium Plus accounts: L$0 per upload (sounds & standard textures), L$0 (high resolution textures up to 2048x2048)

For many years, if you tried to upload a texture that had a dimension larger than 512 pixels, the system would automatically compress it to a 512x 512size.  That is no longer true, because now it is OK to upload a 2048 x 2048 texture.  So ... if you accidentally upload a texture that is too large, you will be charged the L$40 fee instead of having your texture squished to a smaller size for L$10.
