For when you have a lot of time spare, bored, or are generally interested in the topic. Some kids these days still have balls it seems.

The second video, despite the guys obsession with consoles, and assumptions that we NEED photorealism more than decent game play, points out pretty much all the problems that cause me to despise Useless Engine First Person Shooter Kit.

 

There's a reason why, a survey done earlier this year, showed that 60% of all player/game hours, take place on games OVER 6 years old.

Devs obsession with crap like TAA, and Useless Engine, and bloated graphical mess.

Animats likes to foam at the mouth about Useless 5, and how its "ewl tech" will eliminate the need for making lods, but Useless 5's worst problem is, the lac of properly made lods.

1 Step forward, several steps back.

 

Time to go play a game over 6 years old that doesn't have all the "new futureness tech of awful quality".

Originally when that tech was demonstrated or proposed I was positive about it. Much the same way I was positive about certain aspects of some ^of ID's earlier work. But if it comes at the expense of the described issues then I'd view it as a significant regression. Much like refactoring code the results need to be equal or greater than. I've experienced some of the shown artifacts in some circumstances in a couple of the shown games. In one case it had me disable dlss and forget it existed despite my rtx card because the shadows were just royaly screwed. Shortcuts will undermine any advancement and undo hardware gains as usual. I did not know some of the described points about TAA. Generally I just opted for FXAA out of habit and perceived performance. But maybe there's a few setting combinations for me to play around with having watched these.
