Whelp, this may be one of the more impressive locations I've ever found abandoned. And one of the ugliest views ever, too.

Its a quarter of a sim, mostly deep water, feeding directly into Sea of Fables. Its protected river on the right side.

Like often when I find something abandoned that's just an unusually good location, they chose to auction it off. Happy bidding to anyone interested:)

I managed to scoop up a waterfront parcel of abandoned land yesterday. Absolutely lovely spot, perfect for making a beach. The view isn't protected, so it could always turn bad, but I'm hoping others appreciate how lovely it is too and don't do anything crazy. There's a bunch more abandoned since I only claimed a 1024m slice, but I'm hesitant to share for fear of someone building something ugly next door! I'll just say it's on Gaeta V.

One of my first long-term mainland homes was a 1024 like this on an abandoned beach overlooking empty abandoned water, in a sim that was grid edge on 2 sides on the Jeogeot coast.

Then Bellisseria came along, and that area filled up with people.

If you're looking for a great place to claim your first home in SL, Chapel Stile is a beautiful, quiet sim with flat green grass on shallow waters, grid edge and lagless.

I'd recommend putting in a claim quickly, as this will go fast!

There's also a grid edge baby on the auction block.

Abandoning land is such a waste of money

It depends on the parcel. Some of them are so unwanted that even if you set the price to 0.2 L$/m2, no one will buy them. At least not for a long while. In those cases, considering the fact that one has to pay tier for the land they own, it makes sense to just cut one's losses by abandoning the parcel before the month ends. Better than paying another month of tier, especially if it's a big piece of land, since it'd be more expensive to keep it. I've done abandoned parcels like that before.

It's also quite possible that the person who owned the land found a parcel they might like better, and wanted to grab it while they could. I can see abandoning in order to claim dibs on a better parcel, especially if it's one they had been watching.

(Yes,, they could have raised their tier level to get additional land allowance, but maybe that doesn't suit their RL budget.)
