Hey I tried to get some more visibility for your problem, could you go to Help > About Firestorm and copy/paste everything from that window to here? it's just text so you should be able to.

That's an integrated GPU that always was barely enough for SL.

Your options are.

1. Lower your settings. In particular draw distance to 32m, LoD to 2, max # of non-impostor avatars to 1-2, and very much everything else you can.

2. Try other viewer, like Cool VL. It's less taxing than FS.

3. Get a dedicated GPU. Nvidia's 1060 or 1660 should go well with your CPU and will be okay for SL in general even with PBR in mind.

Yes, the integrated graphics is never going to work well enough I'm sorry to say.

That said, it shouldn't crash like this. It almost looks like it's trying to use more memory than it has available, I'm no expert though. @Beq Janus have you seen anything like this? would manually setting a VRAM limit help? I see it is detecting 1GB but really not sure how these integrated GPUs handle how much memory they can use, I also see "Texture memory" is reporting as 512MB.

As an aside though @TyVulpine Buccaneer you probably want to increase your cache size

Quote

Disk cache: Max size 2048.0 MB (78.2% used)

You can safely increase this to the maximum of 20GB these days, older versions of Firestorm allow up to 10GB and it should be maxed out as long as you have the disk space. It will result in a lot less texture re-loading.

Yeah, one "problem" is the integrated GPU. You can try to set this option (see picture) to lower the VRAM usage (only 1GB available)

But the real problem is that you use a 32bit Version of the viewer: Firestorm 6.6.17 (70368) Dec 10 2023 18:34:00 (32bit / SSE2)

Which limits your memory usage. 12GB are available but can't be used with a 32bit version running.

You Texture limit, for the "GPU" is set to 512MB´: Texture memory: 512 MB (1)

which should be fine for the crappy Intel "GPU".

You can try 768 but I don't think that will change much.

One more not related to your problem.Your Disk cache: Max size 2048.0 MB (78.2% used)

Viewer allows 10GB Disk Cache - if the space on your disk is not limited set the cache to 10GB.

Oh I had totally missed the 32bit part! good eye, I should read more carefully.

I think given the VRAM limitations that texture compression etc should be automatically enabled if the viewer detects integrated graphics, would that be a terrible idea?

Tried enabling texture compression? you will want to disable or turn down basically every option in the graphics preferences as well.

The 32-bit viewer is highly prone to crashing these days, there is simply not enough room in a 32-bit viewer to hold a scene and it crashes regularly. Give the relatively low RAM (12GB) I would follow the advice here, grab the 64-bit (6.6.17) viewer and limit the image size to 512

increasing the disk cache size while it won't change the crash rate, will likely improve the overall performance too, especially if you main storage is SSD rather than HDD.
