Selena Hirons Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Hi, I have an odd question. I have a land group that is both hidden in my profile and hidden on search, and yet it seems a stranger was able to access the members list. I am wondering if there is some illegal spy tool being used. I tested it with an alt and it was invisible. Perhaps I'm missing something here, but I feel like I am being "illegally" stalked.
Persephone Emerald Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Did you hide your members list in your group, or did you just hide the group? When I had a neighbor with a land group on mainland, I would look at their group profile. I might even be able to join it, so I can fly through without worrying about ban lines. I'm nosy, so I could see if they had enough tier for their land or not. The members list wouldn't mean anything to me, but I imagine someone could see that & mine information from it if they wanted to do so. 2

Rowan Amore Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I believe it's in the Roles tab of the group. Select a role and whether to show or not show using the check box. 2
Selena Hirons Posted August 2 Author Posted August 2 Ok I found that but reveal members was unchecked so that is not the issue.
Selena Hirons Posted August 2 Author Posted August 2 (edited) Thank you for the replies, I still don't understand what's happening, but I appreciate your taking the time. Edited August 2 by Selena Hirons

That setting is specific to each role, so for example members in the Owner role are (always?) revealed. And there's an Ability that can be assigned to some roles that allow members in that role to "Change Role names, titles, descriptions, and whether Role members are publicly revealed" so some member in a role with that ability could expose every member in every role, perhaps temporarily. Not knowing anything about this group or its members, I can only speculate that one place to look for leaks might be among current or past group members. 2
Lucia Nightfire Posted August 3 Posted August 3 There are illegal TPVs that can show your hidden groups in your profile. There are illegal TPVs that can also see what visible and hidden groups you belong to on aditi while the viewer is connected to agni. I've had someone show me this before. 1
Selena Hirons Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 @ Lucia I have a feeling that is what is going on, it was a very tiny group and half of them were my alts.. What's agni?
SpiritSparrow Skydancer Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Is it possible they opened up group chat and got a list of people that way?

What's agni? Agni is the beta grid or testing grid. It's a small part of SL that is normally inaccessible to users. It used to be easier to get into it, but lately one needs to put in a support ticket to get access to it.

Those illegal viewers can do alot more. Like joining your group, or ejection members, changing roles. even removing group owner rights. The later happen to me 10 plus years ago as I was a group owner but the other owner wanted me gone. so my owner rights were removed and I was then ejected from the group. 1
Selena Hirons Posted August 4 Author Posted August 4 I guess there is no defence for that kind of stuff...

Illegal TPVs cannot exceed group role abilities and allow a group owner to eject/downgrade another group owner. A Linden can, though. There was a time when certain non-Linden support staff could as well, like the Scout accounts. Someone may have convinced support that they were the original group owner or that you were inactive or whatever plausible, but incorrect reason and support believed it without following protocol. Never underestimate the power of interns, whether Linden or other. I've seen some major mess ups. 1

The thing about it was I was a group owner and when you make someone a group owner no one else can remove you from the owner role, but it happened to me. I didnt leave the group. Needless to say it was something that went wrong between me and the other group owner and he found a way to take away my owner rights.
