Are you making something in/for SL today? Share it here!

Doesn't have to be professional! we're interested to see if you are dabbling in creating, even if it's just prims :)

It would also be interesting to hear about your creative process here so we can learn from you!

Note - No product ads please! Just WIP's.

I am currently rigging some clothing I made in Blender, and it is making me die a little inside. Still, I am pressing on. I am starting a clothing brand. I figured out how to do something to fill a niche in the market no one is currently doing, so I am excited, but I really hate rigging. I am doing men's clothing for 2 bodies - I can't imagine how creators do it for so many women's bodies. I am sure it gets easier, but right now I hate it :P

To kick start the thread

I've been working on building facades recently for my sim. Most recently, an Electronics store.

Last couple of days I've been making props to go outside the store - A cardboard box and a pedestal fan.

I do the tape and stuff over the box as it's own mesh because I can achieve better texel density, stuff looks crispier and I think the triangle cost isn't too bad.

The 'Pandasnac' logo and other printed ink bits, I made mask textures in affinity photo like this

and then layer it over my base pbr texture, using a 3d empty in blender to control the transform. I have the color as brown and use the image as a mask.

I made the trim sheet for the cardboard box using Blender and GrabDoc to capture material data

image.thumb.png.5dcc2232eb83566a3272c48d898c56b4.png

Essentially modelling my trim details on flat planes although i bevel the edges slightly to get some extra normal data and then capturing that data top-down with GrabDoc to capture my materials

Edit: I got beaten to kickstart my own thread! nice creations though :D

Making a start on the next facade

This one's going to evolve into a pharmacy, I'll need to make some decals for the windows and signage.

It is using the same materials as the white building next to it. Most of the buildings in Kokoro share just a few trim sheets and all the uniqueness comes from the mesh itself.

The white building is the same 1024* texture as the red one! So far this building adds 0 extra texture memory to the scene.

I usually loosely reference RL buildings to keep it in the realm of believability although I do often take artistic liberties. This is my main reference today

That's cute...makes me want to build a little town...

My current projects I'm flitting back and forth between making right now are an ivy-covered, collapsed, rotting old gallows, a giant flyswatter for taking out flying avatars, a set of straitjackets, and a chair that rumbles and takes off like a rocket and bounces around the room when an unsuspecting visitor sits in it. Also Batgirl and Supergirl Underoos. I already have Wonder Woman. I'd make Robin Underoos too, but a lady in my town already has those (I admit it, I peeked) and I don't want to be a copycat.

texturing in Blender is so much fun...

And here all I do is export the UV map and paint it all in GIMP. That looks like a map of the Hellraiser Universe to me. I can't even sort out how to use two nodes together, let alone do all that.

Looks pretty neato, though.

Disclaimer: I use a very old version of Blender, and have never even learned how to paint in it. Rigging and Sculpt Mode are my only real strengths aside from making basic models and poses.

Lol

Personally I like using a Blender addon called Ravage which I find a bit easier. It works more like photoshop layers.

Thanks...that looks interesting.

I'm excited about beginning a Substance Painter class later this month. Not sure of the difference between that and Ravage. I do like the fact that Ravage has Photoshop layers (am familiar with Photoshop so a plus there).

I’m making ‘the Duke’s office’.

I’ve been a mega slacker and not finished a key set I need to do in order to film a scene for the next episode of my machinima. I have to give the region over to my buddy Bryce to build out for an event at the end of August, so I can’t procrastinate anymore after this weekend. :)

The office is a combination of two builds in an art deco style from Dirty Rat - mash ups with PBR probes and stuff! I’m excited to see how it turns out.

I’m making a Sea Wolf Class submarine.  It is probably going to take a while

I will want to see it. No pressure, I'm very patient. But yeah, I'll want to see it.

It’s currently just a rough prim build.  Someday maybe it will be the real deal. I’m mostly working on the drive scripts and weapons stuff

Soooo today I didn't make something directly for SL per say

I was getting really frustrated because, I have blend files made in all different versions of blender and they only work in that version of blender because of add-ons etc.

So I decided to make a program today. It can detect the version of blender a .blend file was saved in, and then open whichever version of blender I have that is closest to that version.

So now instead of faffing trying opening a file in different blenders, I just double click the .blend in file explorer and the right version of blender opens. Magic!

Here is my program, in case someone else has a similar problem to me!

Squeezed a bit of terracotta clay onto one of my sims main trim sheets

image.png.d8ea65820ee09724dde9e27c8e08f3a7.png

It's that little orange rectangle near the middle :D

I'm gonna use it to make some potted plants to put outside the buildings...

I already made one...

image.thumb.png.bc3c21f8e8165f03d564470808da336e.png

I wanna make some flowers and shrubbery to go in the pots, I've made another trim with soil in one half and gonna put all the greenery on the other half of the sheet, although to be honest I am not so confident in my ability to do greenery... Cube Republic would be better at that than me but I gotta learn some time :)
