I think it would be awesome if people had groups for that. So many people do SL during work hours anyway, even those with office jobs.

It's something a lot of people have in common, which would make it a draw right there, plus having the theme of it being a way to socialize a bit while getting some work done, well, that's the unspoken theme of so much of what people do in SL anyway, so it fits.

Having gatherings for it, like picking a nice place and hanging out there every day, it could become a thing. Like people who do freelance work and hang out in coffeeshops to socialize while doing their work. I know plenty of people like that, and have even been one. It's a great way to network, and even make friends.

Not everyone does everything the way they say everyone does it all the time. Terrible, I know, but what can you do?

It took me 50 years to get over it, myself. In SL.

Oh lord, I work from home most of the week but if I had SL on at the same time, I wouldn't get any work done at all.

I work from home full time, and the gaming PC is right next to my two work computers. I have some decent willpower though so might only pop on over my lunch to grab a demo or two of clothing, never during work. As @Maitimo I'd get nothing done if I did that.

The idea would have been to use it more of a productivity tool during intended work times. Check in with the group then state (in vague terms) what your goal is for the day (or moment). example: admin work for 2 hours, email for 15 minutes etc. State when complete. But in seeing how the group notifications work... I don't know if it could work. Something I'm still mulling over though. I had joined the working from home group just to get the label but I'll probably create one for myself... mobile office working group because the places to work can be varied. Some people would find this helpful, some distracting, some motivating if they actually did what their stated intentions are. lol.

Allow me also to add, not everyone does things inworld the way we're expected to do on the forum. There's no guideline for SL saying you have to stick to inworld topics while inworld. Otherwise, what exactly would anyone be building or simulating in there? Everyone would be recreating sets of build tools and interfaces, and there would be no other content, really.

Nitpicking on the forum is fine, we all do it, but be honest, if honesty is your thing. It's really not according with the image you seem to want us to have of you if you claim to want friends, straight talk, and honesty, and then all of your input is to put others down, look for things to nitpick without even bothering to look twice and see what it is you're nitpicking, and then act like it's everyone else being dodgy and unworthy of respect and friendship that makes you so... exclusive and different, and possibly more worthy of respect.

TL;DR: If you're going to play the game of "I'm Not Playing Any Games", you need to stop playing games, or people will notice. Believe it or not, there actually are people here who are not mental midgets compared to you. Perhaps examing your own mindset with that critical eye could help you to either see where you yourself are fantasizing so you can stop doing so, or help you accept that it's okay to admit that you fantasize sometimes, and nobody will think less of you for being honest about your own inner reality.

I've found that if I can't uphold a personal standard I shouldn't impose it on others. And don't expect perfection from others, then complain about it all the time when they don't live up to it. I have yet to meet anyone who is as perfect as even the most flawed of us would demand they be.

An honest, friendly, straight-up person wouldn't make a point of commenting in threads with topics that they have no genuine interest in, merely to point out the flaws they perceive in everyone but themselves. I hope I'm talking normal enough to be good enough today. Maybe one day I'll be worthy of more than comments from you to the effect that you don't like me and think I am stupid and so are any of us who don't do as you would have them  do every moment, with you and your standards as the central focus around which everyone bases their own actions and speech.

For my part, I think I have you beaten in the friendliness department, at very least. If you don't like me, that's on you.

In SL.

I'm one of those people who hopes when I look into a thread with new posts in it that at least some of them might actually be about the topic, and not just someone posting yet again that the OP is stupid, that those commenting are stupid, and that all of this is stupid. I am a person who thinks that sort of behavior is stupid. I'm a person who contributes more than just my snarky asides, and can communicate more than some delusional opinion that I am the only real person and everyone else is a fake, a loser, and not worth my time.

That is who I am. Nice to meet you, in case you only just noticed.

I really wanted to see more of what this thread was about. Not just another diss on everyone who isn't you.

Okay, I can't enjoy this thread, either. It's all yours. Just do us all a favor and wash your hands before touching anything when you leave it.

If you find SL to be a massive disappointment, just know that it's only what we make of it.

I'm obviously off topic but because  in this thread there is talk of working from home.
Two months ago I injured my leg and I am still recovering.  If someone could recommend me a teleworking position  I would be grateful.

(English, french, greek and a touch for art and fashion maybe are my qualifications)

Remote employee or remote independent contractor/1099?

For languages, there's a lot of full-time and contract remote and hybrid work available in the online tutoring and translation fields. For art and fashion, that highly depends on which specific skills you have. Graphic/web design? Sewing/alterations/tailoring? Fashion styling? Illustration, concept art, character design? 2D or 3D? Art director? Painting? Consulting?

One of the best places I've found for remote employee and freelance work is FlexJobs, but it's a paid subscription. I've found it to be very worth the cost, though, as they pre-screen the listings and filter out spam. FlexJobs does have a lot of remote and hybrid work in the translation and online tutoring/teaching arena. The art and fashion categories are somewhat limited to graphic design, art directing, writing/blogging, consulting, sales, photography, artist management, business development, marketing, etc.

Indeed.com is another free resource that often has decent work-from-home listings. Upwork is alright for straight freelance/contracting, but they do take a percentage of your income and have other fees and issues (lowballing clients), so I avoid it.

Some of the freelancing and remote work subreddits can be helpful for finding leads, as well. r/graphic_design, r/forhire, r/freelance, r/remotework.

I know at least one person who knows of at least two agencies that can get you some very well-paid work online. I'll have to talk to them about it or find it all in my logs if I can, because yeah. I have difficulties in actually getting money out of anything online (but that's just problems with my documents), or I'd be making me some money right now myself.

Also, I've known more than one person who could vouch for FlexJobs, but yeah, it costs money to get in.

There's more real, decent work out there than most would suspect, you just have to break through the wall of scammery and bulldooky that tries to block it all out of view, is all. If I can get ahold of some info for you I will, because just having some experience with more than one language can be enough to get you an online job.

Why what? And what is that based on? I have seen a few events and groups that bring rl into sl world.  What I was asking is if such a thing existed because if not it's something I'm pondering on creating myself.... in sl. Is this not a 'make friends' thread? Would this not be a way to make friends in sl?

My thoughts! In rl there are groups that you can subscribe to to get together over zoom sessions. It's a concept called virtual coworking and has been found to be helpful.   They are structured so that people don't go off the rails with the chitchat and distractions. I'm a part of two sites and was just thinking it would be interesting to try in sl.  I'm thinking of ways to structure and organize it.

Thanks for the responses.  I gather that if such a thing exists on sl it's private. I see there is a range of responses about the idea. And that's very much ok. Different strokes for different folks.

That sounds like a cool idea, but it's not something I could do myself. I work fully freelance on my own schedule, but I only bill for time spent actually working on projects - no chatting, no breaks, no social media, no Second Life. I use a browser-based time tracking system/project manager for billing, so I tend to not do anything else aside from listening to music or something in the background when in focus mode or the timesheet gets rather messy with all the timer starts/stops. 😂

Oh that there is understandable!  When doing volunteer work for others I would try to time track... and even for myself to categorize things.  If I do go ahead with this there would be focus sessions integrated in because some of us need it. lol. But I certainly wouldn't want anyone who has a certain flow like this to disrupt it.
