New Resident?

I never used the forums till a few days ago but I am wondering why I am listed as a new resident when I joined SL back in 2012?

It's only because you have 6 posts right now. It'll go away when you make more posts. It's just a forum thing, and has nothing to do with your actual SL age or anything.

Pheeby's right, Cindy. Not only will you have the "New" designation until you reach some post count (10? 50? Somewhere in that range), but I think you'll also be limited in how many posts you can make in 24 hours and you'll have that little orange hand next to your icon for a while.

Get in here, spice things up, and you'll soon be an esteemed resident like most of us, allowed to spend much more of your precious time here.

Are you referring to the weekend threads that tend to get off-topic and contentious until one of the moderators comes in and locks it?

@Cindy Spicy Welcome to the forum.

I see you joined the forum on Saturday last. So today (8/2) the forum clock sees you as just 7 days old. The forum servers and virtual world servers apparently don't talk that much. While you showed up in-world on June 30, 2012 the forum servers never noticed you. Those interested in whether you are new to SL or just the forum understand the forum age is NOT necessarily the same.

In-world there is a lot to explore. There is quite a bit to the forum also. Check out the sections and subsections of the forum. Just as there are groups in-world that coalesce on single interests so too in the forum.

You find help in various places within the forum. There is an Answers section where you can ask questions. For questions with a L O N G  complex answer that is the best place to ask. Moderators are not strict about where you ask questions. Some are appropriate within a thread and others derail the thread and that tends to annoy people.

There are lots of tricks to posting. When double posting (2 or more in a row) the forum can object and refuse to let you post for a few minutes. You can avoid double post delays by using the + in the lower left just left of the word 'Quote'.

The pings are made by starting a new line or space and typing @ then the name. Usually only a couple letters are needed and then a list of names pops up.

Images can be pasted, uploaded, or linked.
