Hi, I've been trying to research this strange issue but have had no luck so far. One day I logged in as usual and noticed that it seems like my tights are lighter colored on my skin. I noticed it with pretty much every different pair of tights I own in all difference brands. Then I noticed if I use BOM instead of the appliers they look normal. I thought maybe it was a lighting issue but can't seem to figure that out, (seems to happen no matter what) and also why is it only affecting appliers and not BOM?

This issue is new and never used to happen and I don't know what changed to make it occur. I don't mind using BOM for some things but I like using appliers still for tights most of the time, so I'd like to solve this and get it back to normal. Not to mention not everything I own even includes a BOM option. Also just for information I'm using the Firestorm Viewer, and a Maitreya body (Not X), my current skin is Glam Affair brand but I also tried a different skin and got the same issue.

For Example there is a pair of tights using BOM. (This is what they always used to look like)

And the exact same pair using the applier hud also included with it.

There is another example from a completely different brand.

I am not sure if this happens in all PBR viewers or just some of them, but transparent items look different in PBR. Black transparent items are more transparent than they used to be, while white transparent items are less transparent. Course its not just white and black only, so darker colors are more transparent while lighter colors are more opaque.

Have you adjusted anything on the Layers tab of the Maitreya HUD?  In the Advanced option?

I haven't recently. I have some appliers that react to those advanced options, the examples I gave do not.

could be Mask Mode in Layers section is turned on

It is turned off, when I turn it on the tights actually do the opposite and turn solid black.

Hmm, I just checked and I do have Firestorm 7.1.9 which is now PBR. So maybe that's it? That is rather annoying if it is the case, I wonder if there is a fix for it or something in settings I change?

I didn't hear anything about a fix back when I read about it, a creator was complaining about it and linked to a page where she and other creators were discussing the problem. It might have been a JIRA because the posters were trying to get LL to see how this feature of pbr will break some of their content.

Is this the new alpha behaviour? SL has switched to linear alpha so a lot of semi-transparent stuff looks lighter. Possibly not though given you're noticing a difference between BOM and Applier when there shouldn't be any difference if this is what is going on.

It is indeed a bug associated with PBR, and as others have mentioned there's an entry on it at the feedback portal.

As an aside, if the reason you want to use appliers rather than the BOM version, is due to toe coverage being weird with BOM, if using the Maitreya body you can make use of the BOM add-on parts layer to cover up the toes. Doing this might be helpful until they get the bug sorted out with using PBR viewers.

Except it isn't a 'bug', it's working as 'intended'. My poor beard .. :|

Ahhhh. I knew there was a ticket in the feedback portal with a status of 'under review', so I thought it was something they were still looking into. But after reading the response from Kyle Linden more carefully, I see this is working as intended. :(

I guess the reason applier items have the issue, while BOM items do not, is because the baking system hasn't been updated to PBR. So once that gets implemented, BOM items will most likely also appear more transparent. At least with BOM layers we will be able to double up on them to get the transparency we desire.

I would guess BoM layers will be fine even after the update, because transparency on those is not calculated by the engine unlike on provided examples. Already uploaded BoM layer transparency level is not adjustable within the viewer in any way, so those should be safe from any similar changes. Of course there's no knowing what LL are going to mess up this time around, so everything's possible.
