Has anyone else noticed avis that are either parked in one place or floating in mid air for days on end, never leaving? I was curious as to what they are doing and why? I reported this one to LL to see if they could remove it. For days, she has been floating in air, never leaving.

Why? you can't just report people for flying lol.

FWIW it's a bot. Old default avi and floating/standing/doing nothing for days/weeks/months/years means bot.

There must be rules for bots. It makes sense to have a  bot to perform tasks, but to have an army of bots who do nothing but take up server space is like SPAM and should be cleaned up. Whey people have bots who do nothing but take up space is beyond me. This one was on my land, so I banned her, but she is still in the region, hovering over the road. Very annoying.

If you feel strongly about this, you can post it as feedback here where LL may look at it:

If it is a full-time bot, it needs to be registered as such according to the TOS. That can now (usually) be detected. There's a free bot checker on the MP linked below, although the script to do it is so simple I could probably have written it in the time it took to find the advert:

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Graven-Hearts-Scripted-Agent-Detector/24957216

Note that if the bot is identified as a bot, there's nothing you can do. If it is not, and you think it is a bot, you could try AR'ing for breach of TOS.

But... it could just be someone who stays logged in all the time to chat in groups and doesn't care where they are. If it always comes back quickly in the same place after a sim restart though it's probably automated.

Isn't it ironic though, that with your name you report someone for sky dancing lol jk.

Ahhhh memories!

One of my earliest memories from 2008 is bots. There would be odd ones parked at corners of regions. They were land bots, programmed to snap up very cheap land, often when a seller had mistakenly set it for sale at too low a price.

And the bunches of bots in sky boxes were such fun to find.

Back in the day we used to have a category in the Search feature called "Popular Places", so the bots were used to make a land's traffic count look better than it was and that land would automatically appear at the top of the Popular Places. This was outlawed at some point in 2008, but sometimes land owners still have bunches of avatars logged in just so the World Map shows lots of green dots, making their area/shop/club look busier than it really is.

There are also people who like to log in a bunch of avatars to play something called Tiny Empires (Google is your friend).

And as has been previously mentioned, some people may log in to chat or sort their inventory and appear to be hovering in the sky doing nothing. Others are being quietly sociable via private messages, others have stayed logged in while their real life selves have gone away from their keyboard.

I would actually guess that one is a Tiny Empires player. There may be clues on it's profile, groups listed, or picks.

a real, 1st world problem?

Nah.

I'd welcome you to the forums, but that really was a pathetic troll-like first post.

D-  Must do better.

If you go to a sim called Rizal, you'll sometimes see 4-5 bots standing on each other's heads on one of the hills...if you have a vehicle rezzed, you can drive into the one on the ground and bring them all down :) Be careful, though, one of them slaps back if it's bumped! They seem to be connected to a music server, but I don't really know what they do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't take it to heart.  Please, if you ignore the high school drama it can be a really nice place to post about stuff.

If the avatar is not on your land it's not your problem. I have been contacted by people for a similar thing when I am exploring, but stop midair to go afk for a bit or a while, and come back to weird IMs.  This was being parked over public land not any land owned by anyone. So again, if it's not on YOUR land, why bother?

People dislike voyeurism, peeping Tom's and spying in general, as well as suspecting static  avi's are copybotting. Not surprising people are bothered by a stationary avatar in the middle of nowhere considering camming can be used for nefarious purposes.

There are probably more bots in Second Life than actual people at this point.

Karens. Karens everywhere! Filing baseless ARs just because you *think* something is going on when it's probably not is targeted harassment btw.
