In regards to freezing, saving or nothing at all

Question

I have a lodge out on my land that has a rezzer. I don't know what to do once rezzed considering I modified the lodge. I took some stuff out and added some regarding the parts in the rezzer. If I save it after the modifications and pick up the rezzer. If I accidentally take a piece of the lodge up (which happens more times than I care to count LOL) I can place the rezzer in the coordinates before picking it up, and I rezz the lodge again, I want to know if I rezz the lodge if it will rezz the original lodge or would it rezz the house including my modifications before I saved it? I been isl a long time but I have forgotten what to do in this scenario. I know it won't rezz what I added to it, but I do not know if it will rezz without the things I did remove from the lodge (such as the kitchen furnishings it came with)? I hope I am making sense as my grammar sucks!

Before you try anything else (I have my doubts how they will work).  Grab a COPY of the whole coalesced build.

Lasso all the objects (this will NOT WORK ON NO COPY ITEMS) and then making sure you have everything (I lift it all up a bit to see that I have all the stuff -- if not Ctrl +Z to undo) and then take a copy.

If you haven't Unlinked any parts while making modifications, tick the Locked box in the edit window.  This will prevent accidentally taking or deleting parts accidentally.  I learned early on to always lock down the build.

Any additions or subtractions you make to the rezzed building itself will not be saved. If you delete the build and rez a new one from the rezzer box, it will rez using the contents of the box...in other words, the original parts.

In order to modify the build for future rezzing, the contents of the rez box itself have to be changed. If you have mod permissions on the rez box and its contents, and you have a copy of the positioning script, then you can do this. It's a very fiddly process, I hate it because I nearly always forget something.

Maybe the best way would be to

  • Rez your lodge
  • Modify it as desired
  • Rez a new rez box
  • Plop a copy of the positioning script in each root prim of the rezzed lodge
  • Take a copy of each linkset into inventory
  • Drag those linksets and put them in the fresh rez box (or whatever procedure your rez box requires)
  • Save the boxed-up build

This way, you still have the original rez box and original build, as well as a new rez box with your modified build. But you'll need to have full permissions on all the parts and textures and scripts.

Follow Rowan and Chic's safety precautions!
