My question: Why do they stand right at the TP landing point so other avatars aren't landing on their heads? I usually take a couple of steps away from it as soon as I land. It's pretty much a habit.

As for foot height...I change mine to suit what shoe I'm wearing. I wear low or flat shoes as often as high heels. And for photos, I'm very picky. Very careful to use a foot height which makes sense with the photo if I'm not wearing shoes.

Here is a chance to ask, in earnest, why people do certain things in SL. This is not a place for judgment. So please, let's just not.

Ask a question, answer a question or both. Here's mine.......

Why do women walk around in what I call "Barbie feet"? You know, barefoot, but have their feet set as if they are wearing high heeled shoes.

I actually walked like that when i was little for the longest time.. I still do it a lot if I'm barefoot..

all my boys did as well and still do when they are barefoot

I think it has a lot to do with when we were little and had these jumpers that we could touch the ground enough to where we were standing on our toes..

I don't remember what the one I was in when I was little is called.. But all my boys had a doorway Johnny Jumper that we put in the opening of our great room.. Which I had to get each one their own because they wore them out..

They would get to running in one direction and then lift their legs and fly in a circle, then drop to their toes and spin on a dime and go the other direction..

The calves and thighs they had on them before they could walk were tight as a drum..

hehehe

I just had to try and find some sort of video on youtube of this.. This is close to what our boys would do, but since they were barefoot, they really got going and could grip with their toes on the floor much better..

I just remember  we had to have a lot of room for them when they got going.. hehehe

This one is just adorable and had me cracking up.. I miss their Johnny jumper days!! \o/

Because it's pretty

My question would be why wouldn't someone do this, now that we have the functionality and ability.  Back in 2007 we didn't have this ability; now we do; it's awesome and fun; love love love it.

Can't speak for women, but for me, I just forget to toggle the feet to the flat position.

Now that I think about it... there are open APIs for foot controls on some bodies, aren't there?  Like, you can get shoes that auto-toggle to the correct heel height when you put them on?  It should be easy to set them to make the feet flat on detach.

It's too bad you can't really detect attaching / detaching of other attachments from one attachment.  That would cut back on script lag a lot, and make people look better, in this situation.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this device is impossible with the current state of LSL:

You wear an attachment that senses when you attach/detach something from your feet.  When you detach from foot attach points, it automatically makes the feet flat.

I think maybe people are just unaware or disoriented for a bit? I always move, but I have been in Sl for a hundred years.

I end up doing this a lot, but it's not intentional.

I change my outfit but forget to change my shoes. I forget to even put shoes on. And because my feet are not in my camera view, I don't notice.

Maybe I’m weird but the first thing i do when I take my heels off is switch to the flat foot form. The second thing I do is set my hover back to zero. 😬

Good point, I amend my answer to suggest I'm only speaking for myself; I personally think it's pretty.

My Outfits folder is segregated into HUDS, cores, hair, shoes and outfits. My cores contain the Lara or X body, skin, shape, and my foundation jewelry, and the Maitreya flat foot selector. Each shoe folder contains the shoe, any appropriate shoe base, and the appropriate Maitreya foot height selector. I usually change outfits by selecting the desired core, than adding hair/clothing/shoes. I have a "Barefoot" shoe folder which contains only the Maitreya flat foot selector, so I can change shoes or go barefoot without concern for my foot shape.

As a result, you'll actually never catch me standing around SL barefoot and tippy toe unless briefly while I'm changing clothes.

Not weird. First thing I do as a dude is check up and down at the very, very basic level if anything is off. Even down to the belt w/shirt and shoes w/jeans. Tested and true. But then again I change outfits maybe every two - three months. With some variants of the basics. Always set up for a ballroom with an outfit if needed, always ready for a beach. And for. the occasional...  I'lll leave it at that. But on the daily we're just different. Thankfully :)

Body makers: give us quick commands to change feet. I rarely do this because I'm pretty much always wearing shoes but it would be so nice to be able to just type something in chat to change feet heights, HUDs are annoying, clunky, slow and mehhh.

I made something using RLV for that because of the reasons you said.  RLV chat command triggered via a gesture that adds (for Maitreya) an auto foot shaper object that will change the foot shape (duh) and then detach.  Since I'm using RLV for this I also have the thing change my hover-height to match the foot shape just applied... that way I'm not hover above, or sinking into, the floor when the foot shape changes.  It would be better if the body makes would give us a general chat command at least for the foot shape though.

Im guilty. For some reason Teleports take forever for me about 40% of the time. Sometimes it crashes too. Everything else in Sl  seems to run fine but some days Teleporting goes amok.  If i need to run grab a snack or go to the bathroom RL, waiting for TP completion is an easy time to do it. On top of that many places have those landing point movers now, so it slides you out of the way of people landing on your head.

Why do ppl constantly relog? Does it serve a purpose or is it hyperstition?

I relog when stuff - mostly mesh - is not showing up. I think relogging resends data that may not have reached my viewer properly. It also fixes avatars that get deformed.

Yep. SL really, really, really, REALLY needs a sort of button that just tells the viewer to forget everything it thinks it can see and to start over. Unfortunately it doesn't exist and relog is the only option.

I'm pretty sure the reason people do that relates back to one reason why high heels became popular in the first place. They make your legs look longer and the shape of the foot is more aesthetic than just a flat foot on the ground.

So, people like that "elegant" look even if it is preposterously unrealistic, because there is plenty of preposterously unrealistic stuff in SL...that's a highlight of being there lol.

If I go to the beach in SL, I switch to flat bare feet or sandals. Except of course when I wear high heels to the beach, which I do on occasion because I can. :D

I don't quite understand the obsession with high heels and especially going around barefoot on tip toes. My ankles don't need an invisible cast to keep them from breaking in animations when I use the mid heel height. It's why I buy flats and mids 99.5% of the time. Personally I love running around barefoot in my flat feet. :D

I wear all sorts in SL but... finding realistic heels is kinda hard. Very few people release for the low and mid shape, it's basically flats or crazy 8" stilettos...

I have a few low and mid heels and love them, they look about right but it feels like 90% of heels in SL are ridiculous.
