Tayln Osbourne Posted July 16 Posted July 16 https://devtalk.blender.org/t/moving-collada-i-o-to-legacy-status/34621 It's probably a good thing that LL is working on glTF scene support as Blender is no longer going to maintain (and will remove it entirely) Collada support. I also saw Second Life was mentioned as the last core user of Collada so uh...yeah maybe it's time to move on from the old, janky format. 4 7
PheebyKatz Posted July 18 Posted July 18 As long as I can still upload stuff while learning to do everything on something other than 2.7 then I'm okay with this.

There is a nonzero chance that LL will disable collada import at some point once glTF scene upload matures, and some glTF features are only viewable on Blender 4.2 right now, such as Thin Film (Cycles Only, currently), and Thickness + Transmission (Eevee).
Extrude Ragu Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Before someone goes all doom and gloom because glTF is a scary new word... Hope that puts your mind to rest 2 2 2

PheebyKatz Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Yeah, I might have to explore all of this soon, like how it all goes with rigging and everything, just to keep in the loop. Whether collada uploads are a feature doomed to obsolescence or not, I do feel I'm falling way behind by sticking with 2.7, and it's only because the newer (3.0 +) interface layout is so alien to me after finally getting everything the way I wanted it before, and I still don't trust myself to rig anything without Avastar (and I only have up to the 2.9 version of that).
Charalyne Blackwood Posted July 19 Posted July 19 So I can still build in Blender and import into SL?

Relatively simple solution: Install the latest Blender version but keep 2.7 too. Keep workin in 2.7 and when it's time to export, open file with the recent version and export as glTF. 1

Thanks for reminding me about that. 1
AmeliaJ08 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I don't think I've ever successfully exported a rigged model from anything after Blender 2.79 lol, I just gave up on newer versions and stuck to that old one that actually works. I assume I'm missing something but suspect a lot of people probably just use older versions.

I hope so! I like more up to date Blender. I always figured there had to be something up with my export settings but never really committed the time to working out what was going on.
Luna Bliss Posted July 26 Posted July 26 I'm happy 'smooth shading' is back in 4.2 the way it was prior to 4.1.
