What message are you getting when you log in? Do you actually manage to log in at all?

If you whole computer crashes every time you attempt to log in to Second Life, it could be because your system is generally wearing out. SL is very heavy on graphics.  Please check that your graphics drivers are up to date.

Marigold is probably right.  Compare your computer's specs with LL's minimum standards >>>> https://secondlife.com/my/support/system-requirements/index.php?lang=en-US .  If your graphics card is below standards, you may be forcing it to do more than it can handle.  That can cause serious overheating, which can permanently damage components.  Most computers will simply shut down before that happens, but repeated stress is still hard on them.  If nothing else, open up the case and use a can of air to blow out any accumulated dust bunnies and cat hair that will add to a heat problem, and consider installing a couple of good-sized fans to improve air circulation.  If you are using a laptop, at least lift it up off the table and get some air flow under it.
