Yep.  I think it can be disabled though.

Aren't "most" notebooks that come with Windows "S" mode possibly (often) below the minimum requirements?

I think that would be typical, they are usually budget laptops.  It might be able to run a viewer like CoolVL if it is a lower budget laptop though.

it's been the only time I've heard of people coming in asking when they say they can not download the viewer is because windows is in S mode and only lets people get items from the app store instead of installing direct from an exe.
