Turn them off? Then maybe Display Names won't bother you quite so much.

Showing or hiding display names

To show or hide display names inworld, both in chat and over all avatars:

  1. Log into Second Life.
  2. Choose Me > Preferences from the top menu.
  3. Click the General tab.
  4. Select the View Display Names checkbox. If the box is checked, display names are shown. If the box is unchecked, display names are hidden.
  5. Click OK.

ETA: You might have better luck making friends if you put something in your profile. Maybe join a group or two?

I know this is 3 years old but is anyone else sick of display names?

Next week Mary is Jonathan, the next week Susan, the next week Hank....as an old timer this boggles my mind.

I DO have display names turned off, but I guess I'm going to have to eventually turn them on since people refer to people by their display names and not their login names now. I am commonly heard saying "Who is "JimmyJo?"(display name of a staff)

I heard rumors of ending all this display name malarkey 2 years ago, but nothing since.

I propose a way to settle all this and make LL money (bet that caught some attention!)

Change back to login names and last names.

Give everyone one free shot to rename their character.

With THOUSANDS of weddings and divorces in SL daily, charge a nominal fee for a name change..I dunno...ten bucks? Five bucks?

You would be surprised the income that would generate.

Dear LL. PLEASE end display names.

You would make me incredibly happy!

TY!

Other than that Sl is perfect....well all but group chat, but I've been bitching about that since 2007 so I won't beat a dead horse on that.
