There are several ways.   You may have a few dance animations in your inventory.  You can click on any of them to make your avatar dance.  If you are on a sim with dance balls; you hop on; click the object to get pie chart and select what it tells you to select.

You can purchase dance animations on marketplace or in-world, use search.  The instructions will come with the purchase.

There are several other options, but you get the idea.  What kind of dance are you seeking?

Enclose is a great link to assist in understanding what it takes to 'move' your avatar.

Dancing is an animation, just like walking, sitting, swimming, eating........  SL's servers only keep track of where your avatar is.  The animations that make it look "alive"are managed on your own computer.  Some of them follow sets of default instructions that LL provides.  Others are intricate patterns of movement that are designed by SL residents like you and me (but more skilled  :smileyvery-happy: ).  You can buy them for your personal use, or you can use ones that other residents have bought and are sharing --- in clubs, for example, or in the thousands of pose balls that are in furniture all over SL.  If you are in a place where animations are shared, just click on the object that holds them.  Clubs have a dance machine -- often a clearly-marked ball hanging over the dance floor.  There's usually a sign to identify it.  If not, ask someone there.  If you buy your own animations, you can click on them in inventory to activate them, but it's more convenient to put them into a scripted object that you can click just as you would click a club's dance machine.  You can wear an object like that -- usually called a Chimera (a "chim") to make it really convenient. You can find chims for sale in Marketplace and in shops in world.
