how do I transfer $L to a friend?

Open an Instant message with them and the option to pay should be there or open their profile.

I just started using V2 and with many items moved and renamed, its somewhere in there. You pay them to transfer money.

Another option, as well as what Knowl says, is to right click the person in your friends list and select pay from the contextual menu.

When you r talking to someone in their personal chat window...there is a "pay" button on the left side in SL viewer...click it and enter the amount.
