Why can't I uncheck "Only friends or groups can call or IM me" ?

Good question.  You ought to be able to just click to set or unset the option.  Have you tried doing it with a different viewer?  See if you can change it with Firestorm or Imprudence, or an older version of a LL viewer.

Is the option grayed out or is it 'normal' but it does not respond to you clicking it?

Can you navigate to it using tab and activate it using the space bar?

if your voice is currently disabled, try enabling it and then see if you can uncheck the "only friends or groups can call or im". you can disable voice again after that if you wish to.

add info/comments to your post by using options > edit.

what do you mean where i found out about it? don't everyone have voices inside their heads telling them stuff?

if it helps the op at all - only time will tell =) but i have seen this here and there before.

The voices... Don't get me started on the voices... Trying to disable them does nothing. And obviously yours was the correct answer. Sufficiently unrelated to the actual issue - it had to work.
