Question

I've always had this issues with random horrible people messaging me terrible *****. I always report it if I find it to be truly offensive, which most of the time it's not.

Me and my friend came across this one guy during the SL20 Birthday Shop n Hop, and he randomly DMed me calling me a, "****." Now, this DM is  not what bothered me. He blocked me before I could reply and moved on, which IS annoying. My friend however, messaged him and told him off. But NOW, he is DMing HER. But what he does, is he sends a message, then blocks. And when he feels like throwing more insults at her, he unblocks her and sends more DMs and repeats. He's been doing this for 2 days now. We understand it'd be best to block him but please continue reading...

Disclaimer! We do find it funny as *****, but at the same time, I don't think this behavior should be tolerated.

I'd also like to disclose, this is his "Blocked" message, which is normally a Fire Storm feature.

I've blocked you. **** off. Probably because you're annoying as ****, rude as ****, in peoples way and don't care or youre some weird "furry" (if thats the case, you belong in a zoo).. Or I detected that youre a man in a female avatar.

I did nothing to this man, other then he may have seen a conversation I had in local, where a person passive aggressively insulted my preference for a game I play, made an assumption about me, in which I said, "Do you want a sticker XD ?" That's about the only thing I could think of why he'd message me saying, "What a ****."

With all of this in mind, I'd like to knowing if writing about my experience and including the DMs on a Blog I own is legal or allowed through Second life. And if NOT, can I do it, but with censoring the names of the person?

Thanks in Advance!

Your friend should certainly AR the person concerned for Harassment.    There's no need for her to provide transcripts -- governance can find those on the server logs -- but it would help them if she were to  check her chat logs, if possible, to provide dates and times.

In answer to the specific question, the Linden Lab Official:Residents' privacy rights say, among other things,

Quote

Sharing or posting a conversation inworld or in the Second Life forums without consent of all involved Residents is a violation of the Terms of Service.

NOTE: This does not include posting of chat to social media sites or other websites. Posting such logs on web pages, emailing them, or printing them out and posting them on utility poles in the "real world" -- are all actions beyond the scope of the Second Life Terms of Service. ; while that might be illegal, but those laws must be enforced by the proper law enforcement agencies.

"Conversation" means text that originally came from Second Life chat or Second Life instant messages. If it's totally unattributed, then it isn't considered disclosure. Additionally, Residents are not punished for sharing or posting a comment such as "Bob Resident said, 'You're the greatest!'"

Drama -- Ignore them, block them, go on with your SLife.  LL seldom gets involved in drama inworld and LL can't do anything about stuff posted outside of LL.

Yeah, I do enjoy that LL DOES believe in, "Just Block them." Because a banned person is a banned customer LOL Totally get it.

I'd like to see the official response to this question, but I believe LL generally doesn't get involved in what people post on other websites.

I would as well! My understanding is sharing DMs IN Second Life is not allowed, but I'd love to know the official policy on sharing stuff OFF SITE.

There's absolutely nothing they can do about it. You can complain to the mods on that site,  if the posts have broken their rules, but their site is beyond LL's control.

LL has a neutral "we don't enforce rules outside of our platform" stance. They haven't made an explicit rule against it, and historically they haven't taken action for stuff like that.

That said, harassment is against TOS. The best way to prove that is to let them talk at you and then make an abuse report with reference to the chatlog with timestamps and location. LL can go back and read local chat and IMs, nothing is private to LL if it happens within Second Life.

Okay! I wasn't sure. With the state of things now off Second Life, I see people get banned off of platforms for simply saying or doing something on another. It's kind of scary.

Thank you so much! Yes, she reported him and if he continues we will just block him.

I'll give the Policy a read! Thank you.
