Firestorm - camera angle has been reset from custom, can't change it back.

OK, so I was just zooming around my build today and all of a sudden my camera is stuck 20 feet in the air looking down on me.  I've spent about a half an hour fiddling with the various menus that I could find about it and nothing seems to be able to set it back to where it was.  Now I remember there was advice way back when about simply typing in numbers to put the default follow camera exactly where you want it, which is I guess what I did back then ... but now I guess the numbers are gone and I have no recollection of what they were.

Does someone know of a general FAQ or tutorial somewhere on the numbers you put in the camera offset box and generally how it relates to where the camera is etc.?

Just to keep this going for anyone having the same problem now or in the future ... so far the advice doesn't seem to work.

I can easily find the custom settings (in fact I knew where they were before), but when I go to enter my numbers and save it as a preset, it saves it but automatically changes all the numbers to (seemingly random) different numbers.  So I carefully enter the numbers for "just behind my head" or whatever, and when I hit save, the numbers have all changed by themselves and instead it's just some random angle down by the floor, looking up, looking down, etc.  Completely random each time and with no input from me.

I have been able to use the camera to set a view and then save that as a preset.

That part seems to work, but once saved, I can't change or edit the numbers for it and I have only a "roundabout" idea of where the camera is because it wasn't entered using exact numbers.  It's not a good solution.

If this very weird and stupid problem makes any sense to anyone, I'd like to know.  I'm pretty sure my initial issue was caused by deleting a preset that I had made ages ago, but why can't I make new presets using the (numbered) camera position controls?  I was pretty sure I had replaced the "default rear view" with my preset back then, but apparently that's not possible?  Super confused atm, lol.

First I found Inara's explanation too much to read, although I am sure it is correct :)

Camera offset is based on where the camera is with respect to your head position. All zeros in the camera and focus offsets puts the camera at its head position, which I think is about where your eyes are.  When you want to make a new preset, first use Escape to make sure the camera is set to whatever camera position is in effect then.  If you then enter offset values and use Save as a new preset with a new name, and it should stick as a preset. I don't think the numbers then randomly change.  I also recall having to move slightly so I didn't get random numbers.  I would try this first but my avatar is sleeping, and I don't want to wake up my partner.

Once you get the presets you want, you can use the gear menu to delete old or incorrect presets.

I have a few Presets besides the FS default ones:

Camera presets are more useful than you might imagine.  Here are my numbers for Beach Rock. :)

Thanks.

I will have to try it when I log on later but I am now thinking that it's the escape thing that I didn't do.  I was thinking about it as me entering exact coordinates into the box and so that's al lI should be doing, but if I didn't hit escape then it might be that the various rotations my camera was already undergoing would be added into the mix and produce the strange results?

As expected, a dumb mistake once you see it.  At least I hope that's it.
