Tips on how to reduce Firestorm's memory usage? (AMD user)

I read other posts about this, tried reducing the texture memory as suggested, but I'm still having issues with Firestorm using a lot of memory. I have 16 gb of ram and firestorm uses almost all of it in heavy areas. Is this normal for an AMD user? Never really had an issue until the latest update of firestorm. I really don't want to buy more ram, but I may have to at this point. Any suggestion on other viewers that use less ram? I'm kinda not excited to use a different viewer, because I have used firestorm for years now. Siiigh.

This seems to be a phenomenon suffered by both AMD and NVidia GPU users in a variety of ways.  Some of the advice, mainly that of @Henri Beauchamp may be of some use to you.

I've moved to Cool VL Viewer (Merci, Henri) for just this issue.  And the constant thrashing.  And I have 32Mb of memory.  Arch Linux on AMD Ryzen 7 2700X with Nividia GTX 1080 Ti - not the latest I know.
