Marianne Little Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 (edited) Have you ever built new walls/roof and used windows/doors other elements from buildings you bought? I will not say I am going to do it - but I am thinking about it. I can not edit mesh houses. I need to make the structure, since walls can't be moved. Houses are in big parts now. I have so many houses, and no one is perfect. It is too many rooms or too few rooms, too big or too small, the layout is almost there, but not 100% what I want. But the major issue is when big windows face the wrong direction. Or it is the terrace/terrace doors on the wrong side. With that, I mean that it is facing away from my preferred view and into a neighbor's house or privacy wall. I love so many houses, but they all have things I wish was different. Do you find perfect houses, or struggle like I do? I will not move, I am staying where I am. Edited April 1, 2023 by Marianne Little
Sylvia Tamalyn Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 (edited) All the time, but I'm not a builder so using bits and pieces from other builds is the only way I can make something look how I want it to look. One of my favorite houses is one I put together many years ago by combining parts from two different ionic homes. (It was easier back in pre-mesh days to take things apart, of course!) Marianne Little Posted April 1, 2023 Author Posted April 1, 2023 I will not say I am a builder, but I can make walls with openings for windows and doors. 😉 I think SL houses is built like they are to be used on a private island. Free view and space in all directions. Or maybe they are meant to have privacy walls. Urgh, privacy walls... I have the typical 4098 sq m land. I have been thinking, a L-shaped house might be the best, that way I close off in two directions, privacy without the need for much landscaping. It is surprisingly few houses that are made like this. 1

It's so hard to do with mesh buildings, not only to edit them because the walls and windows are laid out in ways that make this impossible to do but because it is usually so difficult to get textures to match, too. I find so many nice mesh houses from popular builders are way too open-plan and it is impossible to add walls and get the textures to match. 1
Marianne Little Posted April 3, 2023 Author Posted April 3, 2023 I know, mesh houses are a pain to edit. That is why I have to make all the walls, inner and outer. I am not super good at texturing. An amateur. But at least the texturing will be the same on all walls. And I would absolutely not try to make a house in one part. Better to make it in parts. I found a L-shaped house plan I like. I would only want windows out from the bedrooms, and no porch on the outside. Waste of space and land impact, since I will not be on those sides of the house. I am not sure if I will do it... it is daunting. But it is much simpler details, if I don't have to make windows, doors and doorframes. I need to see how much that can be picked apart from the houses I have. Â 1

I'm not really skilled in mesh, if there's no usable wall from the deconstructed one, i simply use a prim  The issues i encounter are mostly caused by baked shadows, or the transparant sides of mesh. I have really a lot of houses from Tr. L ( very affordable when in the vip group, just 50 L$ for a selected one every two weeks i think) Most are easy to retexture with textures from the LH packs. 3
