A very good and kind customer asked me the same question earlier this week, after he had tried (and failed) to buy a product from my MP shop twice.  When a sale fails like that, the merchant will have absolutely no idea that you had trouble. She hasn't received any payment.  It's gone into some sort of MP black hole.  What you should do is submit a Support Case to explain the situation to Linden Lab and ask for your L$ back.  My customer did that and, I notice, finally bought the product successfully this morning.
