Coming back after 12+ years and lots missing from Inventory

I had my account reactivated and just poked around for a day or two, but sat down today and started going through my inventory and a lot is missing.  For example, most of my hair is missing. There are folders and instructions and maps of where it was purchased, but no hair to wear.  The same is true with all of the other avatar and clothing related related stuff.  I haven't tried to look much at other stuff, but it looks like things might be even worse there.

Before I write Linden, I thought I had better ask: is there a technical reason, like maybe a lot of the really old stuff won't work? If there are discussions or web pages I should read, could you please give me a push in the right direction?

Consider it a blessing. 12-year-old hair just will not look good.

This happened to me too when I reactivated, after about 5 years away...it's a real shame but things do get lost 

My advice to everyone is, don't ever delete your account!

When an account is 'deleted' I think the maximum time they say your inventory is recoverable is 60 or 90 days if I recall right. After that, inventory loss can happen. I had the same thing with an old account that I reactivated once.

I see that I should have said that I didn't delete the account, it's just been sitting for all these years. When I tried to log in, I got a message that said there was a hold on it. So I asked customer service and received a message back saying that it had been reactivated.  Was also surprised to see a hefty balance of linden money on it.

Welcome back! You can now spend that balance on a mesh body, mesh head, skins for each, at least one new hair style, a decent AO, and new clothes! You won't have a hefty L balance for long.

Stuff goes missing fairly regularly. Every time there's "asset server isssues", something may disappear. Seeing 12 years of asset server glitches all at once, those disappearances are going to be noticeable.  

These days, most disappearances can be resolved by getting a re-delivery, either via the marketplace or Caspervend. This is probably unlikely for items that are more than 12 years old. 

Best advice I can offer is to use your new-found wealth to replace your missing items with newer stuff of better quality.

For those that are following this, and who come along later: The problem slowly resolved itself over several days.  At the time I wrote the original post, I had 4000+ items in my inventory.  I now have 10,000+ items in my inventory.  Obviously, with that many things, I can't be sure that nothing is missing but the important (to me) things are there and working. No idea why it took that long, maybe the items in long term storage out in the Alpha Centauri system just take a while to make their way back. 🙃

Now I can go looking at the new things and techniques.  So far, I'm not convinced about new clothes or hair, but mesh and bento look very interesting.
