Question

I have a feeling this is a network issue because I've tried on a network seperate from my own and it's fine, and it was fine before when I had service from AT&T. I recently switched over to Time Warner and now every time I try to enable voice I not only get logged out of Second Life, but my entire net dies.

I did already go into my router's settings and forward all the appropriate ports, but no luck. I've also tested removing my firewall and DMZ'ing my desktop with no luck (Suggestions I have previously been given).

Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have any suggestions?

EDIT: My current router is a Netgear CGD24G.

Are you sure second life voice is not being blocked by your firewall? When you tested with the firewall off did you see the pop up SLvoice is attempting to access the internet?  Have you ever seen the pop-up SLvoice is attempting to access the internet?

Have you run a speed test on your internet connection? I'm on a fiber optic network, I'm not a fan of coaxial cable.

Has anyone asked you what kind of router your using? In past questions like this I think there are a few routers that don't work with SL. could have been modems, I'm not a computer mechanic. :smileyvery-happy:

Have you visited Voice Echo Canyon? A Region dedicated to testing voice, very low lag, might help.

Give your question some time, there are Residents here who know a lot more about pc's than I.

- I think Quicktime is involved also, just throwing that out there-

Yes, this exact thing happened to me on my iMac.  All you have to do is get the instructions ( I don't remember now but it's like find SL voice in sl folder   and trash 'SL voice)  Once you get rid of SL Voice (on Time-Warner connection)  you can log-in w/o any further problems.  You will have to do this every time you upgrade your SL viewer.

And sorry , no, you cannot use sl voice on an iMac on a Time-Warner connection.   Resign yourself to using Skype.  A lot of SL classes can and will also use Skype -  and of course it's free so a lot of SL users have both voice and Skype.  Once you tell someone in SL that you only have Skype, most will accommodate you w/ no problem -  hope this works for you .

I don't know if it happens on PC's also as I got off Time-Warner.  Now I'm back on it using wi-fi , and I can get to 'region handshake' on the log-in blue bar -  and I get a message telling me to check my internet connection.  It's always jumping' - lol
