What if all of your previous sales were just "happy accidents" in that people only saw your listings when searching for something else?  What is your Merchant or Store name?  Let us have a look in Marketplace by finding you by name and maybe we will buy something.

I am currently not having a damn bit of trouble finding what I am looking for in Marketplace, but I am not a merchant, so I guess my opinion doesn't matter in this forum.

I search for items on the left tab and merchant / store names on the right tab.

Gimme an example of a search that fails.  I'll JIRA that sucker for you!

I use search words Fancy Decor. I do not change anything from the default. "Relevance" is already selected. I do not select "merchant". Because that it not a default setting. I am doing it just as one who does not know how to filter will do.

Before, the store "Fancy Decor" showed up on top with several items.

Now, it is gacha items first.

Weird?

I am wondering, would this hurt anybody's feelings?  Maybe "Creator's Name" is too narrow.  Just looking for something to keep "Merchants/Stores/Creators" out of the Item description for re-sale items of all kinds.  Then maybe we don't need a shovel to find items whose description just happens to be similar to a Merchant/Creator/Store name that got jammed into an item description because there was no specific place to put it.  Make a place for it and make a place to search for it.

Wouldnt the seller have to put the creators name in some sort of field for that to work?

Actually i think thats brilliant

Ultimately, Marketplace should be a communication platform optimized to bring buyers and sellers to the same page.  Don't shove too much into the buyer's face that they didn't ask for by fuzzing the search if result count is "too low".  This tactic is often used to maximize sponsored listing impressions and I see if for what it is, a cash grab.  (I'm looking at you, Amazon, Google, Bing, etc.)  If I type something that gets no matches, then it's fine to suggest some other search terms but to dump "10,000+" listings on me that are not what I asked for is distracting, annoying and very much NOT what I want, most of the time.  Rarely it is downright amusing to see what matches a misspelled word and finding that match is hard when the search engine is going "I fixed it for you!" all the time, which, by the way is such a bad thing that it's not permitted on most forums.  For an example:  bananna  Oh, hey!  Not too bad.  There are many exact matches to "bananna" on Marketplace and it didn't twist my arm until way down the list!  Sure, it matched for as I spelled it and the correct spelling, but as I would want, it put bananna before banana in the Relevance order.

Oh yes, yes, absolutely.  The current practice of prepending the creator, brand or store name to the item name and putting the result into the item name field is an attempt by the lister to inform the shoppers.  Give the lister a separate field for it and I suspect they will use it.

I think search should be simple and relevant. In my opinion, arguing that "you should search by filter so- and so" or "use this search word instead of that" is not a good argument.

Yes, if we know how to sort, filter and add more words and stuff, that is good for us. It is the casual resident who has not used Marketplace much, who has a short attention span and not interested in google how to optimize MP search.

This buyer may have heard that Trompe Loeil has good houses. So he type in trompe loeil as search word. He ignores all the filters to the left. Up comes page of page with gacha items. I used 96 items per page, and the first Trompe Loeil store product that came up was on page 5. That is over 400 products.

If the casual resident use default 24 items per page, he would give up way before he comes so far. Remember, he has not cared to filter or anything. He want it simple. He may think the store is closed, and only gacha items remains.

Gachas, IMO, need an entire MP of their own.  It's like shopping at garage sale or second-hand store.  First thing I do if I'm searching is tick that Limited Quantity box AND copy.

Why should a search engine also be a mind reader?  Language and words exist to let others know what you want.  My cat also complains he can't find any catnip on MP.  He paws in Meoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!dsflk;ja, and not a hit, or gets 35.000 hits for sex furniture.

The current tech for predicting what a person wants is severely flawed.  I got pummeled for ads for new vehicles starting the day after I bought one.  Prior to that I got no ads for new vehicles.

Recently I looked up an item to see if I would want it, decided "Nope!", and now I get pummeled with ads for exactly that rejected item and many things like it.

I really don't want Marketplace to be like Google and Amazon in this way.

As nice as we might think it could be for a search to return what we were wanting instead of what we asked for, I too think it's best for us to learn how to ask properly instead of expecting tech and "big data" to do it for us.  If we could just stop arguing over how to ask properly and settle on something that works!
