I would hope they just like talking to weirdos and misfits, something like "Soft White Underbelly" on YouTube.

This is essentially it. But I wouldn't call people "weirdos" or "misfits".

I explained my reasoning for wanting to do this, and that is because the only current videos I see about SL are trolling videos. They are very negative. I wanted to do an interview to show people in SL in a different light.

I honestly didn't expect people to be so offended over my post, I'm not sure if everyone here is very guarded or just....strange.

Ah well.

Gosh, first time I've ever known a stalker to advertise for victims. Points for originality! 😄

I don't really get it.

Have you never seen those "VRChat Interview" videos? I'm sorry to have offended you but uh..I'm a happily taken 26 y/o woman who just wants to interview people online.

Thanks for your contribution anyways, I suppose!

Ah well.

It is a matter of "better safe than sorry" for most of us I guess.
Internet is a nasty place that doesn't forget anything once posted there.

While I am not interested in participating, I will say that I am impressed by the amount of info given about the process - what you are doing, how you will do it and why -- as well as the fact that you have actually been in SL for a while.  We seldom get anything more than 'go fill out this form' from survey folks and it is almost always from some newbie that has no idea what SL is.

Awwh, well thank you! This is kind of the reaction I was hoping for.

I just figured saying "Hey I'm looking for people to interview" would be weird, and people might be suspicious of my intentions.

That's why I explained in such a lengthy post because I hoped to avoid that. Sadly it seems like I've offended people anyways, can't please everyone.

That's true. I wasn't expecting people to be so guarded. I do think many of the assumptions of me were uncalled for but, oh well. They do have their right which is valid, but I think the audience in SL is much older than what I'm used to.

Interviews like this are very common in other online spaces I'm in.

I don't think it's fair to call people "attention seekers" for wanting to be in an interview. Maybe they have many stories to tell? Their names will be kept private regardless, and I have only a humble following so they will gain relatively nothing other than getting to share their stories.

Mmhm, sure it isn't.

None of which are available to view from your profile or forum signature.

I don't use the forums often, but my socials are linked in-world (a storefront I have).

Or you could, y'know...just message me and ask for proof of my socials.

But you're free to have your own assumptions, I can't control you.

I bet you’ll find several people inworld to interview and the video will be up on YouTube in no time. When it’s ready, post a link. I’ll look forward to viewing it.

That's a great point - I think I will stick with finding people in-world instead. Was not expecting this from the forums but it's not going to get me down haha. I probably won't be posting it to the forums when it's done but it will be on YouTube for sure.

I truly just find SL fascinating and wanted to do a nice video, similar to how VRChat has several interviews.

If you are looking for a partner in SL it's soooo easy just TP to some random event and look nice.

Much easier than this weird process xP

For real lol it's soooo weird that some resident is doing interviews ...18+ interviews....just for personal fun.

Raising so many red flags to be honest.

Also, I'm going to add on to your comment because you're apparently finding something weird about my "18+ comment"... It's because I'm 26. What business do I have talking to a child? My sibling is a minor, and if I knew an adult was talking to him online I would be very concerned and upset.

Assuming I'm "looking for a partner" is a bit shameful of you, when I'm only wanting to interview adults for safety precaution.

I know everybody here wants to be funny, but you couldn't have gotten this more wrong.

Again - 26, female, practically married at this point.

Thank you anyways.

I bet people made assumptions because even if you put a info into the why section, it's still really vague. I think it's more vague than you think it is and it still reads a bit fishy.  A quick, I want to interview people to put them on my youtube channel so I can get views, would've settled the questions about real motives much better than make it seem like you're offended, without really being offended, that people question your motives.

People should question your motives, they should question all motives, especially when the specifics of your request involve voicing and potentially NSFW material. People online can be shady, no one here knows if you are or not. I wouldn't do an interview myself mostly because I don't like voicing with people in sl and definitely not people I have never met even in sl. But mostly because your post isn't nearly as clear as you think it is. That you question why people are guarded online, when that's what all people should be leads me to think people you interview should be even more cautious. I question everything, I was raised to question everything. If you didn't expect people to question this whole idea, you're not ready to do online interviews of people and put them in a public space. It's expected behavior. That's not a bash of you or anything negative like that, though. You should be a bit more upfront and question others' questions a little less. If you want people you interview to be open to that, you have to be open first.

I don't think people are offended. It's just a bit of an odd request. I don't use VRChat, though, so I can't say how common it is there.

I'd understand it more myself if you were also interviewing other gamers and groups - Escape from Tarkov players? Minecraft modders? Twitch streamers? Sims content creators? World of Warcraft raiders? Competitive Fortnite tournament winners? Path of Exile league players? Speed runners?

I suppose I find myself wondering - What's so interesting about people who use SL? Other than some of us really happen to love tinkering with 3D programs, customizing avatars, and taking virtual photos, but that could apply to a lot of different groups. After all, Guild Wars 2 is nicknamed Fashion Wars for a reason. 😂

Also, voice chat is kind of a dividing topic in Second Life in general. Some love it, some hate it (breaks immersion, some people don't want to talk to complete strangers, language barriers, etc.). You might be able to find some willing participants in-world in voice-enabled social areas. No idea where those are as I'm in the "don't use it" camp, personally. Sorry I can't be of more help on that front!

I appreciate this and you do make some very good points.  I honestly do come from other online spaces where interviews like these are more common, and not really questioned.

I should have definitely.mafe it clear that no, there will not be any NSFW material, and the only reason for the age requirement is I just do not want to interacted with minors for everyone's safety. It's moreso a, "I don't think it's appropriate for adults and children to mingle" thing.

As far as motives go, I truly thought I did explain it. "A passion project / I find SL people fascinating/ the only videos currently existing of SL are troll videos". Apparently I did not explain it well enough as I can see now.

I'll take what you said to heart and be more mindful going forward. Thank you!

Thay being said, I hope you have a great day.

I should say also I do like looking at videos of sl on youtube and there are way more than you're letting on, most aren't negative or trolling at all. Yeah there's lots like that, but not even most of them are anymore. It's really clear that even the ones that have trolling are pretty funny and mostly people goofing around and not so much the negative bullying type trolling, just people doing stupid stuff. There's a bunch of those kinds of stupid stuff videos on yt.

But most of the videos I've seen where people are talking or even interviewing about other things, because I've seen at least a handful like that, the people in the video are all aware of what it's for, views on that channel, or offer info about something specific. If you're just wanting to interview people about sl, you might have a hard time finding people to do that if you keep acting offended when they ask why, though. Let them ask why and when they do tell them it's because you want videos on your channel. If they make assumptions about why, shut it down without acting defensive about it. Sounding defensive makes it seem like they might be the nail on the head, otherwise you can laugh it off and just make your points more clear. If more than one person makes the same conclusion, it's usually because the way we present it isn't how we want to. Easy to fix!

I thought you explained it fairly well.  I assumed a video of some kind.  I'd love to tell my SL story but not on voice as I don't use it.  Why?  I never wanted a relationship thru SL.  I was married in RL and now I'm a small house cat that wears doll-like clothing but still a tiny cat all the same.  Voice kind of suggests I might go further, that may be the reason for red flag to some people.  I'm not sure.  But,  I don't have any voice equipment and I would be shy to be speaking in a video on YouTube.  Not everyone is outgoing.  I'm awkwardly and badly probably explaining why some people may not use nor like voice in SL.  For me, it suggests I might internet or avatar date which I won't.

Hi there, I appreciate your comment!

Essentially I am focusing on SL to interview as, whenever I look up "secondlife video" on YouTube, it's mostly trolling videos. A large consensus I've seen online is that "People in that game are weirdos!". I know that every website, every community, has their goods and bads, their ups and downs. But I do feel SL has a bad rep from the outside. My goal from the interview is to say "Hey, there are positives here too - there are good, interesting people here. These are real people with feelings." To sum it up quickly.

SL is also full of people who create, in ways that are different from just interviewing a Minecraft streamer, for example. At least with the people I've met in SL, many are creators (3D modellers, textures, scripters, sim owners, etc.) there's just a lot 'to' SL that makes it unique.

I'm also a very big fan of the VRChat interview videos, and I enjoy binging them, so I guess you could say those are my inspiration!

Thank you also for your voice chat comment as well. As far as the communities I'm in and places I go to within SL using voice is pretty normal, so I didn't consider that. I really appreciate your insight for this.

I hope you have a great day!

Very insightful and I appreciate your perspective.

I think text-based interviews definitely do have their place, just sadly not what I am aiming for.

I thank you very much for your time.

Understandable. I was only explaining myself as I felt I did have a right to defend my words at others' assumptions, you know? I'm not at all upset, just surprised. This is not the type of reaction to this sort of thing that I'm used to seeing, which is why. But I do appreciate you coming in to explain and offer your perspective very much.

I will continue to look for people and pursue this, but likely in-world instead, perhaps where I already see people using voice.

Otherwise, I will ask people I'm already friends with / have an established relationship with, rather than strangers.

Thank you again for your time!

It's too bad I am shy and don't have equipment because I have info that could quell the SL people are weirdos myth.  But, I don't want to share it here.  May I send you a quick IM?  It infers only sales data as to what I want to share with you.  Or what do you mean by weirdos, firstly?  Does it involve slex by any chance?

It's okay! Honestly, seeing yours  and others' comments I am going to strongly consider and think of a way of how to incorporate text-based interviews. I think TTS would be ideal, so I'll put my tiny noggin to use and re-evaluate how I'll be conducting the interviews. If I do find a way, I will reach out to you to see if you're still interested (and if not - no hard feelings!)

Not sure what you mean by "have info" but please just ensure it does not hold any persons private information. With that said, you may absolutely IM me if you'd like!

I like that you don't care if the interviewee uses a voice-changer. Not sure what I would choose - alien, chipmunk, "Deep Throat" (extra deep voice), possibly an autotune / vocoder voice.. so many choices of voices!

LOL, yep, you may absolutely. My personal favorite voice changer to use for myself is "Witness Protection" (megadeepthroat voice) or "Piano". It just makes a bunch of piano sounds when I talk.

But yes, for your safety, a voice changer is fine 🤣

Not sure I saw an answer to one of my questions: are the basic questions provided ahead of time, or always "surprises"?

Oh no, no surprises. People will be supplied with the questions long before the interview. Actually, I should have just posted it here to begin with, maybe my post would have been less scary. I am sorry for that.

Some questions may arise that even I didn't plan, though. **EDIT:** For example if you are answering and I ask something to expand on it, or something related.

But before the video is even posted, the individual will be given their portion  to review. They can also say "I don't want to answer that" or "Can you remove this from the video?" and I will, no questions asked.

Actually, the fact you left the questions a "mystery" probably made your post more unique.

We get a LOT of posts "Please fill out my survey for my College Thesis".

Depending on your questions, it may seem like one of those "college thesis" posts - which are usually lame / bogus / ridiculed at LEAST as much as your post was! 🙂

No, no personalized information is kept in my sales data.  The sales data I was speaking of just involves numbers of particular items purchased.  You've mentioned several times the outside world views most SLers as weirdos, I'm assuming you mean out to bed an avi just about as soon as it arrives.  So, sex crazed may be a myth.  I hang out with a very non-sexual crowd who has been here for 18 years as a group and it's about friendship because we are all little tiny animal avatars and  most cannot even do the animations for SL dancing let alone sitting.  So, slex might be impossible.  It's sad to hear that some viewing SL from the outside don't know that one creates their own SL here and it's all kinds of things just like in the real world is all kinds of things, imo.
