I get an Error Message when trying to upload a Mash

Each model has a "physics shape" for doing collisions with other objects or the avatar.  If you do not explicitly upload one, it can use an auto-generated shape from your model.  This shape will use the outermost corners of your model and connect them with triangles, without any dimples or holes.  This is called a convex hull (shell), since it is not concave (dents or holes).

Generally you can get better prim count and collision results if you make your own physics shape, or load your lowest LOD version of the model as the physics shape.  It should be as simple as possible, since each triangle of the shape has to be calculated against any moving object or the ground to determine when a collision happens.  So a complex shape means more work for the server.
