What's the likelihood of LL developing the ability to transfer inventory to any user of your choice upon account deletion, do you think?

I have a very large, very expensive no-transfer inventory on another account that I'd love to close and delete, transferring everything to this one. I can't see going through and buying everything again, even if the original vendors were still around. Not only is it inefficient and expensive, but on principle, it's ludicrous. I get the concern about intellectual property rights, but what about my rights as a consumer? I paid US$15 for a skin I can't use anymore? I'm the same user.

In BonnsakaWorld :matte-motes-big-grin:, when I choose to close/delete account, a step in the process would ask me if I'd like to transfer my inventory to another user. Enter the username in the field and submit. Upon confirming account closure/deletion, everything in my inventory moves over and no copies are left behind in the old one. LL could even go a step further and verify that the billing information on both accounts matches, to ensure the accountholders are the same person.

In the end, no one stole anything, items don't end up on the blackmarket, the old user can't use the items anymore so only one purchased/legit copy continues to exist, and consumers aren't ripped off.

Thoughts?

Sure, might be usefull to some people. But only if there is some kind of indication visible to everyone that this process been made. This is needed so content creators don't accidentally sue you for permission violation when they check your name from the sales log.

Good point. Then, what if we built on that?

Every item comes with a properties card and an item ID. Along with the item ID, couldn't it also say something like, "Transferred from [username]."?

I don't know what it looks like on the seller's end. Is it all in a huge database? Couldn't the database just update upon transfer, with "Transferred to [username]."?

Or can seller's click on an item they see on someone else, pull up the property card, and see the item ID, transfer account, and date?

Sellers have self made sales logs. They come in many colors and shapes. Some card system/item sounds like a mess. If we ever get this. i suggest there is just a field in the profile "Liisa Runo" "Previous accounts: Nommy Nom, Liisa Nap"

Edit: lol, didnt know that word is on the black list.... lets edit it

That'd work, too, unless you're hiding from an SL stalker.

By properties card, I didn't mean an insert by the seller. When I right-click on an item in my inventory and choose properties, it brings up a card for me that says things like:

Name:

Description:

UUID/transaction number: (add this field for tracking purposes)

Creator:

Owner:

Transferred from: (add this field for the old account name)

There is a central database somewhere, because it tracks our purchases in our account history. Theoretically, dumping our inventory into a new account would read the UUID/transaction number from the inventory items and trigger the database into updating, and sellers could run monthly reports or whatever to balance LL's records with their own, if necessary.

I know this is all wishful thinking, but it's fun to fantasize.

OR

LL could simply assign us numerical IDs and let us change our usernames at whim so we can evade those stalker types and skip making new accounts. Changing display names is fine, but does nothing for those people who choose to not see them or still see your username. :matte-motes-inlove:
