I disagree about Cinn & Chai being poorly made. Weird, I understand. The bodies are a tech step up. For all my time in SL people have complained about the avatar's UVMap. These bodies correct the UVMap problems, which requires adaption on our part. Not everyone will figure that change out.

I agree with the sentiment that the bodies are, from a tech standpoint, the future.

Especially because the UV map is freely-licensed, meaning other bodies can adopt the same UV; The feet (No more mesh-swapping!) being fully bento-compatible (As much as some body creators say that the bento rig doesn't support feet, it does - but for whatever reason they're afraid to rig them!).

I think where Cinn & Chai fell down is for a couple reasons, but in no particular order:

  • Poor marketing. If you remember how Kupra launched, they had SO many affiliate vendors, sponsored events, etc. Not only this, but they managed to get people talking about the body, beyond "huh. cool."
  • Shape: Cinn & Chai is another entry into a saturated market, and the shape is pretty inflexible as compared to the competition. I do wonder if they'd gone for another market segment (e.g. the petite market, go after Maitreya Petite, Legacy Perky Petite, etc. users) if the body would have fared better.
  • 3rd party support at launch: Especially because of the new UV, it would have been great to see a bunch of creators release new stuff which would fit the new UV map. This is still a pain point for the bodies, and given the lack of traction of the new UV thus far, is likely to continue being so until another body adopts the UV.

All my opinion of course. I'd like to have seen the body succeed, mainly so that the tech which makes them up would have got noticed more, and maybe set a standard.

That is a good point about the new UV. I think it was even a challenge for Lelutka EvoX heads, when they started to be released.  And Lelutka already had a strong user base. I think that with their existing popularity, it wasn't an insurmountable challenge to get some of the big vendors on board, especially when they started offering free upgrades to their older Evo heads.

The free update was very smart. Lelutka could have done as Catwa and said: "New line, new product. You must pay for EvoX".

Instead they flooded the market with their free updates, every Lelutka owner suddenly had the EvoX version in addition to the Evo. Trying EvoX was no big investment.

And every time I am in the Lelutka store, it is lots of people there, and they buy heads. Some only use the free gift heads they got, but a lot of people shop too. And new users are recommended Lelutka.

I think the main problem with Cinnamon and Chai is that it just doesn't look the way most people want to look in SL right now. I'm a body collector with slink physique and hourglass, the 3 belleza bodies, maitreya and petite, legacy regular and perky, kalhene erika and ebody reborn. I like them all and the variations each shape provides. I make slim or plump shapes, little or big breasts, short or tall. So I'm flexible, but I couldn't make the Cinnamon and Chai body wearable for me whatever I did with the sliders. The breasts looked overfilled at any size and the hips and thigh area are difficult to adjust. For the range of what I find attractive there is only one setting that I like for Chai's lower body and nothing I like for the upper body. There are some lovely unique touches in the way Chai was modeled but those aren't enough to make up for the unresponsive sliders.

It would be pretty awesome if the innovations that came with Chai could be bought as an upgrade to hourglass and physique.

I have also noticed that several bodies do what I think is odd shape changes to the butt. In RL large butts are more of a spherical size thing. They get bigger like a balloon. For some bodies it seems the butt is only extended rearward when enlarged. So I expect hips to get wider when butts are enlarged. I'll have to look at my C&C to see how the hips change with the Butt Slider and check to see what you are seeing.

As to poor design, I did find that like heads I had to start with the included shape and work from there. Starting with my existing shapes was a disaster just as it was with my existing head shapes. So, I don't consider a departure from the common a design flaw. Heads use different facial bones in different ways. I don't consider that a flaw but artistic freedom, which is an SL thing... misusing SL features to create interesting new things.

I think the reason it is gaining little popularity is the improved UVMap makes skin, system clothes, and tats not made for them unusable. Similar to the Evo X. So one has to start over with skin and system layer stuff. Which makes it a more expensive adoption.

They were, though. They made very poor decisions with Cinn & Chai that guaranteed it's DOA. From sliders being completely locked and not working as they're intended, vastly limiting shapes you could get with it. The decision to not allow 3rd party body mod add-ons on release. The boobs looking like they belonged on old school Lara Croft. There were plenty of poor design choices they did with that body.

Also what you were saying about the butt sliders was not how they worked. When you made the butt SMALLER, the hips would go WIDER. That didn't make any sense. If they went wider when you made the butt bigger, sure then maybe I would understand. But they worked the opposite. But even so, that is why there are separate hip sliders, there's no reason to have the butt sliders do that to begin with....
