Fameshed

I gather this is supposed to be pronounced similar to famished (hungry) as it's got the word 'mesh' in it, but when I say it in my mind I always say it two words -  fame shed. I've never said it out loud as it never enters an RL conversation, much like the whole of SL as if it's some sort of dirty embarrassing secret. Nothing to do with this thread, just letting it out.

I have 5 female avatars and they all have Maitreya bodies. On a previous post somewhere in this forum (about alts, I think) I said I had four, which was true at the time. But I couldn't help myself and started another. I tried some of the trendy bodies (Kupra and Reborn) but I simply did not like them because the thighs and butt were so cartoon-like. No disrespect to anyone who has one but I thought they looked terrible and they're most definitely not me. I'd never buy Legacy or have anything to do with them.

I attempt some semblance of realism with my avatars and Maitreya allows me to get the closest. Add to that it is quite rare for clothing/shoes not to include Maitreya. My most recent fem ava has already amassed a large wardrobe with luckies, frees, gifts and some paid-for group joins. She felt well established after only a few days.

ALL mentions of any other body fittings in clothing or shoe folders are deleted immediately upon unpacking, along with all other superfluous junk. I use to cling to other fittings just in case, but after all this time I'd never needed them. Can always try a re-delivery if needs must, but I doubt I'd ever need to. Keeps the inventory trim.

Is your new girl wearing Maitreya now, or would you want to try LucyBody Atenea with her?

Back when FaMeshed started, it was one of the first events that included mesh items.  One of the first big events actually.  Mesh was introduced in 2011 IIRC.

I don't feel frustrated in shopping for my Freya body. It's seldom in event gift clothes, but I can find Freya sizes in older clothing, such as group gifts. It's always in the clothing packs I buy at Addams and Blueberry. It's in enough outfits at Vanilla Bae that I can have some strippable outfits. It's in enough outfits at Salt n Pepper that I can get some clothes there. I already have so much inventory, that I don't really *need* any new clothes, yet I'm still able to get new items that I like.

I feel much the same. I switched to Freya part-time a few months ago and lately it's been just about full time, and I haven't found any difficulty finding new clothing.  The stores I frequent (including the ones you mentioned) are still releasing new products for Freya. The big shopping events - I never go to them anyway, so it matters not to me if they aren't including Freya.

The only times I switch back to Maitreya now are when I want to wear something I already own that doesn't include Freya size.

I have always thought of it as this, quite deliberately because it amuses me, and have been known to write it as "FameShed" or even better, "the Fame Shed" and I will never stop doing so. I support this 100%.

Searching the apparel and/or accessories categories on the marketplace for the various body names will give you the answer by simply looking at the results count.

Please do not let that be your only metric, Inworld we have Hundreds and maybe even a Few Thousand Brands not on the MP who sell millions of transfer only yardsale/event stuff , many stores are now events only. also many higher quality fashion gear can only be found inworld. Marketplace is easy and fast but for Rare/Ultra Rare stuff your only going to find it shopping in person, you will also find many of these brands often have support for lessor supported bodies that's the little extra many are looking for.

I only shop on the marketplace if i need something generic like landscaping or a house. when it comes to fashion I find the best prices/deals including expanded body support at inworld shopping at events.

The problem with this metric is that MP shows many older ads. The OP wants to know which bodies are dominant *now*.

Still holds true though, if you search for Maitreya for example and look at the apparel results. It towers over all others.

It's a metric that gives you a pretty valid result. Ignoring 'rare', transfer only items which are kind of a niche that shouldn't be included in a generic metric, in world events are advertised pretty well online, though not present on the marketplace, these events contain a lot of big name brands who cater to the popular bodies. The same popular bodies that you can easily discern via the metric I described. That's not to say some niche body X isn't used, it's just extremely clear which ones are the most popular due to the supply of apparel.

If only there were a way for these details to reflect things like:

Why are they wearing x body

Are they shopping or freebie/gift hunting

Approx what a month are they spending

Does the user wear multiple bodies

What style of dress do they mostly wear

Whilst the raw data is interesting, it doesn't express the full story or the whole truth behind the numbers.

Yes and a huge majority also say in most listings you can find the same item inworld for much less. Out of thousands of sellers you will find most have a store/booth or a cheap stall someplace inworld at discounted rates.

MP is often just a way of advertisement for rare stuff just like people use it to sell land, the lsiting you can buy from or visit inworld to save some dough,  MP has a few advantages its fast, easy to search through and instant purchase.

My point is buying Inworld at Events, Malls & Shopping Experiences not only can provide you Better Mesh Body Support Options( Support for lessor known Brands) but also can provide a better experience at a cheaper price.

Data has been collected for almost 3 years now.

Almost everyone on the grid has a lara body. Do they use it most of em don’t. Not to mention Lara has been out the longest so naturally they will have the highest numbers. Then you have to wonder what demographic this bot was in. What places did they go to? Did they come to the urban side of the grid? Did they go outside of caucasia of SL. I’m willing to bet they didn’t since most ppl know basically nothing about us. Do more research before executing this. It does our community a disservice to broadcast this level of false information including the disservice you are offering this community against creators as well. A little more thought can really go a long way

I would tend to believe someone who has been in the SL Community for a long time and has over 3,100 posts over a participant that has only 10 posts and a second one who is posting for the first time...especially when rude comments are involved.

I translate this all as, "I DON'T SEE MY PERSONAL FAVORITE BODY RANKED AS HIGH AS I'D LIKE. I'M CANCELING YOU!". 😤

The bots go everywhere on the grid. If they only hung out at human mesh head/body stores/clubs/events you wouldn't be seeing the level of diversity that is shown in the charts.

Also, the data reported is what has been seen worn, IE used, not proclaimed sales figures from creators nor survey results which cannot be independently verified.

I encourage you or anyone else to set up a similar testing environment. You will see very similar data.

If you want a thicc body and all the new squishy add-ons, maybe Maitreya is not the 100% best option for that niche.

I saw 2 new releases just now, that don't include Maitreya. One is a sweaty belly add-on for Velour body skins.

Maitreya should watch out so they are not left behind in all this thicc body craze. They should have had a curvy body released years ago. Maybe they are getting too self confident.

That being said, two releases in a sea of new releases does not mean that Maitreya is going down. And Maze makes thighs for Maitreya now, don't they?

The curvy body market is overfilled as it is. Maitreya is right to stay the course, emphasizing slim figures and the Petite add-on. If it could be mended without breaking all the extant mesh, the arms are really the only problem.

Most Popular:  Maitreya & Slink are the better supported bodies while also good for those who want normal/realistic body proportions. Slink(Siddean Munro) has the best Customer Service & Support.

Newest Bodies : Cinnamon and Chai. they not getting much traction even when both are the best bodies yet!  but due to market over saturation of bodies/ rival fashion gangs excluding them, they might die a slow death like the old Chip Midnight Body did years ago when it was the most advanced body around but all creators ignored it.

I would not recommend Meshbody. unless, I was mad at you, didn't like you. then I would gift one to you :D Kalhene, inthium, reborn. Belleza I do not own but tried the Demo's having mixed feelings while seeing limited fashion support. I never got into the whole 'my boobs are bigger then my legs' thing.

Cinn and Chai were so bad and so poorly made. I tried the demos of that body, and the love handle slider was locked and the butt slider made the hips go wider. It was so weird, I understand why nobody uses it.

I have mixed feelings about the idea of Maitreya entering the curvy body market. I wouldn't want them to take focus off improving their current body.  I think there is still room in the marke for someone to come up with a more realistic curvy body. I doubt it would appeal to people who are purchasing the current curvy bodies, as they apparently prefer the really exaggerated body type (I'm sure there's some interesting psychology going on there!).

I disagree about Cinn & Chai being poorly made. Weird, I understand. The bodies are a tech step up. For all my time in SL people have complained about the avatar's UVMap. These bodies correct the UVMap problems, which requires adaption on our part. Not everyone will figure that change out.

I have also noticed that several bodies do what I think is odd shape changes to the butt. In RL large butts are more of a spherical size thing. They get bigger like a balloon. For some bodies it seems the butt is only extended rearward when enlarged. So I expect hips to get wider when butts are enlarged. I'll have to look at my C&C to see how the hips change with the Butt Slider and check to see what you are seeing.

As to poor design, I did find that like heads I had to start with the included shape and work from there. Starting with my existing shapes was a disaster just as it was with my existing head shapes. So, I don't consider a departure from the common a design flaw. Heads use different facial bones in different ways. I don't consider that a flaw but artistic freedom, which is an SL thing... misusing SL features to create interesting new things.

I think the reason it is gaining little popularity is the improved UVMap makes skin, system clothes, and tats not made for them unusable. Similar to the Evo X. So one has to start over with skin and system layer stuff. Which makes it a more expensive adoption.
